I tried on three separate occasions to play through the first one. Couldn't get into it.

I perked up when i heard of the premise of this one, but reading this "story" they're trying to use just ends my curiosity.

If they wanted to do a cool game based on this idea of rapture, they should've started the series off from the beginning where every one in rapture hasn't turned into some mutant yet... It would be much cooler to see rapture tear itself apart if there were still some humans around to emote about how terrible their lives have become and why they are going to choose to modify themselves to match the ones who harvest them and their friends. Why couldn't you have gotten to Rapture before it was a practical ghost town?

I've always wanted to play post-apocalyptic games, but ONLY if I get to experience the apocalypse from the beginning. That's the best part of the game. For example, I liked the demo for prey more than the game itself, because it started off like a normal night, and everything turned to shit. The "game" part after that ceased to interest me on the same level.

When some city/village/etc in a game is occupied by only enemy AIs and no citizen AIs, it feels too much like a run and gun* action game and less of a story to experience. I never want to be the only source of attention for the bad guys in the game. That is probably why in GTA4 i like to pick gun fights with thugs and call the cops on them to watch the shootout that ensues, haha. Those cops are ruthless, and it's terribly entertaining!!!

*Not saying I don't like run and gun, but I like to be given the proper motivation to do said running and gunning. Otherwise, what's the point? might as well play something else that does have that quality.

Oh, and if all the former humans did just turn into splicers and stuff, did they all have to look the same as a result? Shouldn't we be at a point where there's more than 3 or 4 character models in a game? can't they randomly generate faces and outfits now to just lay overtop a mesh? (yes i know hardly any game has a large variety of models, but assassins creed did a pretty good job of it.)

Any one else have a similar feel about this game or games in general?

I do agree with midlaugh on most of what he said. Many valid points and reasonable opinions. Still, I really like Bioshock, it's a great game.

exactly what I feel. A face-to-face display of emotions would have been more powerful.

don't agree, I think it CAN be very fun either way

That was the "wow!holyshit!" factor. The beginning was outstanding, it did feel grand and I was gasping for air when all this was happening on the screen. One of the most special moments in games history. But you can't have EPIC! events all the time. And it wasn't the gameplay, which grabbed you by the balls, it was the CHANGE, reminds me of War Of The Worlds in a way. "Everything turned to shit" was a preamble, like a CGI movie in Warcraft3 or WoW or Warhammer. But I too like to think, what if you would be able to experience the same strong feelings and drop your jaw on your knees during the whole game.

again, completely agree
That's why Half-Life felt real, why HL2 feels like a world, like there are people living in it.

Yep, it's the one. You forgot portals and wall/ceiling walking. All in all it is (in my case was) a very fun game. Enjoyed it a lot.

Cheers for the confirmation, looked it up and it’s too cheap now for the sold out range re-release, only £2.99 / $4.20 approx.

Need to wait till I need/want to order something else so I get free postage. Wink
