SimCoaster
(hx) 09:49 PM CET - Feb,03 2001

SimCoaster is the third game in Bullfrog's series of amusement-park-themed business simulators (SimTheme Park 1999, Theme Park 1994). Is it really a new game or just only an expansion pack? Well, If it weren't for the significant changes to the gameplay, SimCoaster would look like an expansion pack to SimTheme Park, especially because it uses the same engine as that of its predecessor. However, SimCoaster allows you to control one huge park with three new themes - Arabian Nights, New Science, and Polar Zone. In the new campaign, you play as a theme park assistant manager who is being trained by the company's aging president as his replacement. The new mission-based gameplay will also give you specific goals, which will open up new areas of the park when completed. The game features a new Coaster Design Kit which allows you to construct coasters at your leisure and import them into your park. Certainly you are still able to wander your park and ride all the attractions from a 1st-person perspective. SimCoaster includes a whopping 18 new styles of coasters to build (they are not based on real-world and theoretical coasters), new set of skills to teach to your staff, more than 100 new rides, shops and games and new characters and personalities that alter strategic design. The game now includes three different types of customers (kids, parents and grandparents) who are all looking for different things in an amusement park. After a couple hours of playing this game I find SimCoaster to be less satisfying than RollerCoaster Tycoon overall, though SimCoaster graphics are better. But I bet you will want to try this game anyway :)
