Silent Hill comeback

Silent Hill was a game that fed on fear and it was one of the most influential horror series of its time. Rumours have been swirling around for a few weeks as to whether the game is going to get a big reboot and make a dramatic comeback. Fans have been trying to piece the clues together and there looks to be an impending announcement. With the Game Awards 2020 set to take place on December 10, there have been suggestions that Sony - who has struck a new deal with video game providers Konami - could launch Silent Hill at the ceremony which will be a virtual event. And anticipation levels are reaching fever pitch.

Fans have been waiting patiently since the third instalment of the series for another addition of Silent Hill. The game is expected to retain all the elements of the previous versions as the original director, composer and monster will all make spectacular returns to bring out the game. This could therefore see the franchise's creator Keiichiro Toyama help bring the game back to life and there have even been suggestions that the game may have made an appearance at one of the PS5 that took place earlier this year.

With burning infernos and trawling through a modern asylum, gamers were faced with terrifying obstacles and zombies at every turn and it had a very similar impact to games of its time like Resident Evil. And Silent Hill isn't prepared to go away quietly. Indeed, the harder that Konami has fought to bury all traces of the game, Silent Hill has tried to keep it alive. For its loyal legion of fans, Silent Hill is more than just a game as it speaks to them in a way few other games can.

Remastering of Metal Gear Solid

While Silent Hill has been in the spotlight and dominated the news in the gaming scene, it isn't the only game that could be set to come out of the doldrums. Indeed, Metal Gear Solid could be making a return too. Fans have naturally been questioning when Metal Gear Solid - which has been a constant since 1987 - will be back. Although Hideo Kojima was the architect behind the development of the Metal Gear Solid series, it will be fascinating to see if Konami will be able to reach the heights Kojama set. But as of yet, there has been no news or leaks about when Metal Gear Solid 6 could come to the market.

Silent Hill and preserving a classic

While Metal Gear Solid has resonated with many fans, Silent Hill has transcended the gaming scene. Silent Hill has intrigued and shocked in equal measure and for some, the rumours over its supposed return draws attention to the mark it has left and its legacy is undeniable.

The way in which the game descends into madness and darkness has been a hallmark of horror video games and the gameplay is superb. Explaining why Silent Hill 2 was such a masterpiece, a team member was unequivocal in their praise for it.

They said: "For most who play it for the first time, they quickly realize what makes it so special: The visuals and art direction, the atmosphere, otherworldly audio, character stories, and more.

"This is what makes the game so special to me and important to revisit to allow others to experience it on modern displays/hardware."

Preserving a classic game is what is most appealing to most of the Silent Hill team, especially Elisha Riedlinger who helped design and inspire the features of the game. She said: "Knowing that I am helping to preserve one of the old classic games. Without work like this on older games, these games would be lost in time."
