Mercedes Benz World Racing

Mercedes Benz World Racing is a car racing game developed by German developers Synetic (BreakNeck, N.I.C.E 2, Mercedes Benz Truck Racing makers). You maybe noticed there are some Xbox reviews of the same game, but it was originally designed for the PC and was then ported down to other systems. The game features the largest selection of Mercdes-Benz cars, seven maps with 120 different routes traced along them (Alps, Japan, Mexico, Nevada...and also the Hockenheim Circuit), over 110 original cars from A to S-Class (though when you start unlocking cars and they include the identical-looking). Each car in the game will feature its own realistic cockpit or interior, real-time shadows, and adjustable driving physics that goes from arcade to simulation. Practically every parameter of your races can be altered or adjusted to suit your needs. For example, if you find yourself coming in 6th too often you can reduce the AI of your opponents to make yourself more competitive.
Mercedes-Benz World Racing offers training missions, race and championship
modes and also mission based play. The Mission mode is similar to Championship,
except you don't have a choice about which automobile to use. You start off as a
test driver for Mercedes company with the goal of becoming the to car tester in
the world. To achieve this goal you have to compete in championships with other
test drivers with the aim of winning. You also have the option of taking a "Free
Ride" on any of the game's locales and taking in the scenery at your own pace.
I’ve spent at least fifity percent of my game-time in this mode and it's as much fun as the
racing portion of the game.
Sadly, Mercedes-Benz World Racing contains some awful flaws. For example, you can drive through trees and crowds of people as if they are ghosts, and the damage model is pretty unrealistic too. It's quite surprising that your own car takes only a little damage from a 200km/h crash! It's almost impossible to destroy your car :) Also the game menu is pretty confusing, it's really frustrating when it takes you five minutes just to figure out how to start the next race. The last my complaint is that the game has no LAN/Internet multiplayer. Mercedes-Benz World Racing offers only split-screen race on one computer.
Despite the flaws, Mercedes Benz World Racing is a well-designed and fun game overall. It is definitely worth trying especially if you have ever dreamed of cruising the world's most beautiful roads in an E-class luxury car. Try this playable demo (61.7MB).

pretty good, reflections on the cars' surfaces are incredible, unrealistic damage model, weird collision detection
playability: 3/5 -
fairly enjoyable, classic Mercedes-Benz models, adjustable driving physics, many of the tracks are extremely challenging, support for joystick, steering wheel or gamepad, confusing menu, no multiplayer (split-screen only), occasional slow-down/frame-rate issues (patch out)

Yes you can drive through trees and people, and not much damage. but the car simulation is something the very best I've seen in a game. I get great framerates on my middle tier machine too. I dont understand how NFS underground gets a high score and this doesnt. |

I play a bunch of race games and think the tracks and physics in this game are well done for a fun experience. Haven't been able to see that far down the road since Viper Racing (still one of my all time favs). |

Dont know if it beats NFS porsche but it definitely beats NFS Underground which is commercial pap.

Though it sure takes somre realism away..... Still, with minor flaws, I think the game still deserves 80%. Especially after looking at many of the late, PC racing games. MBWR is much well made than mere-console ports such as Ford Racing 2. |

If you dont stay stucked on a first impression, you will realise you can actually feel the physics of the cars, the maps are incredible, you can track racing, offroading and road/street driving. When the multiplayer feature will be released (if good), i can say it will be the best driving sim i know.

You got a huge Map to drive on - the resources needed to make all the things interactive would be too big to handle for most systems. I think they did the right thing. |
