Developed by Irrational Games (System Shock 2), Freedom Force is a tactical RPG that combines the fully 3D real-time tactical combat engine with deep RPG character development and a rich storyline. The game is set in the 1960's era of comic books and with presentation, atmosphere and story that feels so much like a classic super hero adventure.You have to recruit, train, and lead a squad of 14 original comic book superheroes - each with their own unique powers - as they strive to defeat the forces of evil, including rampaging dinosaurs, ants, invading aliens, and that most sinister of political movements - Communism. Freedom Force features over 25 unique superheroes and villains, dozens of amazing character animations bring each superhero to life, over 23 missions that offer a variety of gameplay, about 15-30 hours of first run gameplay, fully destructible environments: destroy buildings and then use the debris to attack enemies, superhero RPG skill system, ability to customize and/or create superheroes and personal skins, and of course multiplayer (deathmatch against you and three other players over LAN/Internet).

What about gameplay? Amazing, simply amazing! I was immediately hooked is quite an understatement! :) First off, it's game for all Superhero fanatics, if you aren't, go away! :) Despite it's a RPG, the gameplay is pretty simple for everyone, at the beginning of each mission you choose a squad of up to 4 superheroes (from the available roster), then you enter the map, fight some bad guys (pauseable real-time combat alike Baldur's Gate), time to time you fight a boss, return to base and again. The combat really rocks, your enemies can be punched, batted, blown-up, burned, crushed, freezed, zapped, kicked, smashed etc. But probably the best thing in the game is fully destructible environment stuff. It's really sweet to be able destroy everything around, of course it can lead to reduced prestige points :P, but honestly I didn't care much :) But there is even more. How I mentioned above, if the selection of Freedom Force heroes is not enough for you can make up your own hero to join their ranks, giving him/her a collection of powers that suits your style, and through playing the game, you can level up your hero, adding yet more powers and abilities. Freedom Force is definitely the first game that really takes the superhero concept and does it justice. Despite that multiplayer is very incomplete (there is only deathmatch), I don't believe gamers will be upset that they bought the game. It's really the best superhero game on the market with extremely engaging single player mode and very highly replayability. Download playable demo (56MB).
