Who hasn't stared dreamily at the rumbling convoys of big rigs as they ramble down the great American super highway? Oh yeah I like that... the freedom of the open road. Big Mutha Truckers puts you behind the wheel of 20-ton, 60-foot-long big rigs as they cruise coast to coast and everywhere in between. Far from a boring drive, it'll take some slick steering and solid shifting to deliver your goods in one piece.

The idea of the game is that there is an elderly lady (known as Ma) who owns a highly successful trucking business in the USA, but sadly, age has taken its toll and so she decides to give the business to one of five lucky truckers. As one of Ma Jackson's four kids, its up to you to take your rig out on the road and make as much cash as possible - by any means possible - in sixty days. Beat your siblings and Ma will hand over the reins of the business to you. You make cash by trading various commodities in the five cities that make up Hick State County, by taking on special jobs (some legal, some not so legal), by wagering with other rival drivers and by causing as much chaos as possible! Each city has a great and individual look to it from the towering sky scrapers of Capital city to the bright neon lights of Greenback. There's no one way of getting to each place, its just you and the open road which you are free to roam, but you must watch your fuel and damage meters. Buy, sell, repair and refuel at cities then off for another day for more of the same. There is also a mission based mode which pits you in a variety of scenarios.

Big Mutha Truckers features Four unique characters, each with their own personalities, driving styles and attributes; Damage - trucks suffer progressive and spectacular damage from collisions with wings, spoilers, doors, and other body attachments, becoming damaged, detached, and generally abused during the course of the journey; Action-packed Driving - most of Hick State County is a lawless anarchy, with truck jackers, biker gangs and even the corrupt police getting involved; Smash-able environment - as the driver of a massive 18-wheeler, you're not restricted by roads; Special Deliveries (deliver a fragile artifact to the local museum; get a truck full of explosives out of town before they blow; or run a biker gang off the road); many other hidden bonuses and extras for players to uncover; and soundtrack by Steppenwolf ("Born to be wild!" ), Stereo MCs, Deep Purple, Technique and the Everley Brothers.

Overall, Big Mutha Truckers is surprisingly solid game with some nice ideas and a lot of fun to be had. It is completely free form, like GTA3, but instead of a city you get a whole US State, complete with 5 towns. Big Mutha Truckers for the PC and GameCube is slated for release in April 2003. The PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions were released in November 2002.
