Dota 2 is arguably one of the most popular games in history. Click here to learn who the most popular players are in 2022.
A noticeable trend emerged in Dota 2 in 2022. Young players
were competing with their older counterparts to rise to the top.
Many regions had young players who made headlines for their individual
performances or had teams of young players who excelled at tournaments.
Regardless, numerous veterans did not give up, and some still shined
despite everything. They were as strong as ever, which indicates that
there is still much to say about them.
However, several players stood out among the rest in the two
divisions of the six regions in 2021, and they continue to be popular
in 2022. Many of these players have attracted new crowds to the sport
and inadvertently helped develop a betting market. If you're looking to
cash in on your passion for professional gaming, you'll find an impressive
selection of betting markets online. So, these are our top picks
based on their individual performance and team impact. Let's begin.
The Most Popular Dota 2 Players in 2022
- Emo
- Gpk
- Nisha
- XinQ
- Yatoro
- Collapse
- Ame (the uncrowned king
of Dota 2)
Emo
Zhou "Emo" Yi is a staple of Invictus Gaming and was a brand
new player in the game’s competitive scene until the grand finale of
the Singapore Major in 2021 against Evil Geniuses. Evil Geniuses won
the grand final with a considerable margin, 2-0 ahead and just a win
away from winning the third. Invictus Gaming won the teamfight, but
Evil Geniuses lost. Emo dropped a "?" just before Evil
Geniuses GGed. As absurd as it sounds, this event led to Evil
Geniuses' defeat and Emo winning the grand final.
Emo performed admirably in the two final games, as Invictus
Gaming defeated Evil Geniuses by a score of 3-2 to win Major. Emo
didn't stop there. Because of his proactive approach, this gamer became
one of the most challenging players to beat. He began to dominate the
Spirits solo, and he could carry the game throughout the season. He was
aggressive but understood what he was trying to achieve. Invictus
Gaming would also benefit from Emo's versatility, which would allow
them to draft quickly.
Emo was a formidable Dota 2 midlaner in 2021. His
prowess as an athlete only increased throughout the season. It will be
interesting to see how he performs at this level in the future.
Gpk
Danil "Gpk" Skutin is at the top of his craft. Gpk is well-known in
pubs for purchasing Shadow Amulets. He also brings out his
monstrous side during official Virtus.pro games to completely destroy
his opponents. He has a deep understanding of the midlane due to
his many pub games that helped him understand the matchup.
However, Gpk's performance at the Dota 2 midlane isn't what
makes him an excellent midlaner. He can perform
flawlessly through the match that truly sets him apart. Gpk excels
in the midlane, and while some midlaners can get caught up in the
game's fast pace, they fail to make an impact even after a solid start.
However, Skutin is at the top of his networth throughout every match.
Gpk's mechanical skills are undoubtedly among the best in the
circuit. He has been a highly-respected midlaner for many teams over
the past couple of years. However, watching if he can match those
skills with his new captaincy role at Virtus.pro will be interesting.
Gpk, 20, is up for the challenge of captaining while also playing in
one, two, and three positions.
Nisha
Michal "Nisha" Jankowski, a Dota 2 professional competitor, was an
impressive player and continued to shine throughout 2021 in Team
Secret. He even won the Best Esports player award in 2020.
However, that was not enough, and he continued to perform impressively
throughout all of 2021.
It isn't easy to pinpoint Nisha's play style since he excels at
every aspect. He has always been able to fulfill any request from the
team, be it playing Spirits in midlane or greedier heroes like Templar
Assassin. Because of his versatility, his hero was often selected late
in drafts. Puppey always chose the best hero available, while Nisha
ensured he won with whatever he had left. He was an absolute beast at
TI10 and was undoubtedly the
best midlaner in the playoffs, winning nearly all of his matches.
He has also been a consistent performer when he returned to the
safelane after TI10. Even though the new roster isn't performing well,
his farming patterns were remarkable, and it didn't seem like he had
been away for too long.
XinQ
Zhao "XinQ" Zinxing, a long-time player in Chinese Dota 2,
finally got his breakthrough when he started playing for PSG.LGD in
2021. XinQ was a strong player as a position four gamer. Kills can come
from any part of the map when a four-player position is active and
efficient like XinQ. His gameplay was so efficient that he
appeared to be omnipresent. This gamer was always at the
right spot at the right moment, helping not only his offlaner win lanes
but also the other lanes.
In 2021, XinQ became a master at spellcasting. The Chinese
player was able to identify the correct position four players and
prioritize his spells. The results he achieved with PSG.LGD are a
testament to his skill. A roaming supporter, XinQ was a thorn in the
enemy's side and a boon in his own.
Yatoro
Although it was no secret that Illya "Yatoro" Mulyarchuk was a
skilled carry player before TI10, there was not much evidence
of that in competitive Dota 2. He was a wild card when TI10
arrived and seemed to be limited to farm-centric heroes at first. But,
he kept playing and grew his roster of heroes. Yatoro is a young player
who played in many tournaments and pubs before TI10. This
experience gave him an advantage as he showed impressive versatility.
He
played 14 heroes in the 20 games Team Spirit played at TI10.
It's safe to say that Yatoro followed the rules to the letter.
He was familiar with every aspect of his role and would do what was
suitable for his team, even if his enemy did something unexpected. He
could spot enemy moments, and, as you can see in numerous of his
gameplay clips shows, he knew how to avoid them.
Collapse
Magomed "Collapse" Khalilov's performance on the heroes Magnus, Mars,
and Tidehunter at TI10 was nothing short of extraordinary. Collapse's
performance with Magnus is worth mentioning, as he made the most of the
hero's talents, making it impossible to compete against him.
Collapse is a talented Dota 2 player and an excellent laner. This
gamer often wins matches that one would expect him to lose. He was
imposing in how he itemized throughout his year, regardless of what
hero he played. He would buy any item he felt was necessary.
Collapse has delivered top performances on heroes not mentioned
above during the DPC 2021-22. Some of the player's magic may still be
waiting for the right moment to come out.
Ame
Watching an artist at work is the best way to describe watching Wang
"Ame" Chunyu playing Dota 2. His work begins with assessing his goals
and then moves through the map to find objectives, farms, and kills.
He was an elite player for many years, but he always felt that he would
have trouble on essential occasions or make uncharacteristic moves.
Regardless, Ame
played in his best match to date in 2021.
He is a skilled player who can play all kinds of carries and use
excellent farming strategies. He also knew when to help his team win
teamfights or secure objectives. Ame also rarely had to fight against
his carry counterpart.
He was similar to Yatoro in that he gave his enemies very little
chance and was better than him in this regard. To even keep him under
control, his enemies had to fight hard. Ame's 2021
performances were astonishing, even though he didn't win the
coveted TI10 Aegis. One can learn much from Ame's gameplays, including
how to become a consistent Dota 2 winner, which ensures his popularity
throughout 2022.
