Microsoft has confirmed that recent Windows 11 updates can leave a black screen after sign-in instead of the desktop. The problem started with the August 27, 2026 preview updates — KB5120996 on version 26H1 and KB5120998 on 24H2 and 25H2 - and later cumulative updates can trigger it too.
