Cybersecurity firm ThreatFabric has uncovered Perseus, a sophisticated new Android banking malware actively spreading in the wild as of March 19, 2026, built on the leaked code of Cerberus and Phoenix trojans. The malware enables full device takeover through Accessibility abuse, allowing attackers to run remote VNC ses

Why are people surprised. It’s open source cheap
It’s free and available to the public, allowing anyone to view, modify, and distribute the code, change its behaviour and drop crap on android mobiles that have zero protection against it - Perseus. Very, clever and stil won’t change the mindset of idiots that store (open) passwords on a mobile device that is about much use as a chocolate fireguard.
People have zero security skills and deserve all they get, especially with a dumb device that needs a virus scanner because it’s frankly shit!
A Quick Look at why hackers love it.
| Quote: | Fragmentation and Delayed Updates: This is the biggest weakness. Android runs on millions of different devices from many manufacturers (OEMs). While Google releases security patches, they must often pass through carriers and manufacturers before reaching users, leading to months of delays. Many budget or older Android phones stop receiving updates entirely, leaving them permanently vulnerable to known exploits.
Open Nature and Third-Party Apps (Sideloading): Android allows users to install apps from sources other than the Google Play Store (sideloading). While this offers freedom, it increases the risk of downloading malicious files (APK files). Malware often disguises itself as popular, free, or cracked apps.
Target of High-Volume Malware: Because Android has a huge, dominant market share (over 80% globally), hackers target it to maximize the potential of stealing data, passwords, and banking credentials. Over 95% of mobile malware targets Android, with banking trojans being a major threat.
iOS on the other hand
Lookout customers are protected against this threat through our Safe Browsing feature as well as Device Compromise Detection. Devices running the most recent versions of iOS (?18.7.3 for iOS 18 and ?26.3 for iOS 26) are not susceptible to this threat or the vulnerabilities exploited by it. Out-of-date OS detection empowers admins to identify vulnerable devices in their fleet. Lastly, our Web History feed enables identification of devices that have been exposed to or compromised by this threat. |
Cry me a river.
The exact reason we binned android. Waiting and waiting until your manufacturer got round to -or not- giving you a security patch.
Apple has ONE iOS applicable to ALL devices supported and therefore one update fits all. No waiting for a 95% Trojan attack from hackers
It’s backwards compatible as well. My last iPhone SE 1st Gen was supported for 8 fucking YEARS. A £180 mobile that had biometric
I’m on a 3rd Gen iPhone SE with iOS 26.3.1 for £380 second year of having it |

Nope I seen it and replied below my post above.
Patched and fixed instantly on any iPhone/iPad from iOS 18 upwards.
Unlike android, because it has to run though mobile manufactures- the 95% hacking bank app problem is a real problem.
Nobody gets it. It has a 80% global market because the Android OS is shitty open source. And totaly insecure.
Apple make ONE update to fix ALL its mobiles and iPads.
How many android mobile OS is there?
As of early 2026, there have been 16 major releases of the Android operating system, with Android 15 serving as the primary current version (released late 2024) and Android 16 already in development. Since its debut in 2008, Google has released over 20 versions, including point updates and, until Android 10, alphabetical dessert-themed
How many manufacturers are there?
There are hundreds of Android mobile manufacturers globally, with around 250 active brands as of 2023, down from a peak of over 750 in 2017. While hundreds exist, the market is dominated by a few key players, including Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and Transsion
Then add a separate patch to each and everyone of them by those manufacturers.
Ding.
Lightbulb moment. |
