Cybersecurity firm ThreatFabric has uncovered Perseus, a sophisticated new Android banking malware actively spreading in the wild as of March 19, 2026, built on the leaked code of Cerberus and Phoenix trojans. The malware enables full device takeover through Accessibility abuse, allowing attackers to run remote VNC sessions, steal credentials via overlays and keylogging, and target financial and cryptocurrency apps primarily in Turkey and Italy, with additional hits in Poland, Germany, France, Portugal, and the U.A.E. Uniquely, Perseus scans popular notes apps like Google Keep, Samsung Notes, and Evernote to extract sensitive information such as passwords, recovery phrases, or financial details stored by users. It spreads via phishing sites and sideloaded dropper apps disguised as IPTV services, such as TvTApp or PolBox Tv. This evolution highlights growing adaptability in Android threats, with Perseus incorporating anti-analysis features and potentially LLM-assisted development for enhanced efficiency.

Why are people surprised. It’s open source cheap :roll:
It’s free and available to the public, allowing anyone to view, modify, and distribute the code, change its behaviour and drop crap on android mobiles that have zero protection against it - Perseus. Very, clever and stil won’t change the mindset of idiots that store (open) passwords on a mobile device that is about much use as a chocolate fireguard.

People have zero security skills and deserve all they get, especially with a dumb device that needs a virus scanner because it’s frankly shit!

iOS on the other hand

Out-of-date OS detection empowers admins to identify vulnerable devices in their fleet. Lastly, our Web History feed enables identification of devices that have been exposed to or compromised by this threat.

The exact reason we binned android. Waiting and waiting until your manufacturer got round to -or not- giving you a security patch.

Apple has ONE iOS applicable to ALL devices supported and therefore one update fits all. No waiting for a 95% Trojan attack from hackers :lol:

It’s backwards compatible as well. My last iPhone SE 1st Gen was supported for 8 fucking YEARS. A £180 mobile that had biometric

Nope I seen it and replied below my post above.

Patched and fixed instantly on any iPhone/iPad from iOS 18 upwards.
Unlike android, because it has to run though mobile manufactures- the 95% hacking bank app problem is a real problem.

Nobody gets it. It has a 80% global market because the Android OS is shitty open source. And totaly insecure.
Apple make ONE update to fix ALL its mobiles and iPads.
