Avatar was the first 3D movie I ever saw in my life!!! Later we had a Samsung TV with 3D, so I saw a lot of movies in 3D in the cinema and at home. But this is still definitely the best 3D movie of all time and I can't wait for the sequel! As for those 3D TVs, it's interesting that you can't buy one anymore. I have an

3D is another victim of the cancellation, the fucking fashion way...
I've more of 100 3D movies, and can't replace my old LED TV because no 3DTV on the market right now...

We still have dozens of 3D movies (our fav format for home cinema and at the pictures) when we seen Avatar at the pictures they used special Panasonic digital projectors to view it as it was meant to be. The screen had special curved edges to partially wrap around the wall and to make you look left and right as the pictures came out in 3D like that. The best film we’ve ever seen in 3D. So-much-so, when Panasonic came out with their 600Hz plasma 3D active 120Hz (slimline) it had the rights to release Avatar, Mike and the mechanics and coralline with it. We went and seen it at the showroom and it friggin blew us away!!! It came with Panasonic 6.1 surround sound 3D Blu-ray home cinema free - like 1000WattsRMS. Pure cinema sound. The TV cost us £2000 still have it and watch 3D occasionally. Sadly the home cinema player packed in, so we only have a Sony 5.1 unit now for 3D.
Never forget when we got Avatar with the TV. (Obviously not for sale in shops etc) people were selling them on eBay at over £300 per copy! They came with James Cameron settings for viewing on your Panasonic TV. Very unique and priceless.
As Hex said, ‘nothing equals it at the cinema’ but this setup we had was the damn nearest you could get!

I only hope that our cinemas get the new projectors in so we can watch it in 3D without the need for glasses. But due to austerity, probably just want to save as much money as they can……

WILL AVATAR 2 BE IN 3D?

Yes, Avatar 2 will be shown in 3D, just like its predecessor, but there’s a twist.

Cameron’s production company, Lightstorm Entertainment in partnership with Christie Digital, has been working on new 3D technology that will remove the need for wearing glasses to see the effects.

Reported by Inside the Magic (via WeChoiceBlogger), Christie Digital has been implementing a new RGB laser projection system into the production of all four Avatar sequels.

Referred to as “pure laser”, the system uses 60,000 lumens to project bright images with high frame rates resulting in sharper visuals.

This would mean that theaters would have to swap their projectors for the new system, which may result in only select screenings using the tech.

Exactly, I have also hidden an old PC + 3D breeches, it worked very well in the end - for the living room!

I also have an extensive collection of 3D movies Sad

But 3D movies are still coming out, aren't they? I mean Blue-Ray. What are people supposed to play it on? (maybe a stupid question)

No 3D movies aren’t coming out, it’s 4K UHD and Blu-ray now.
You can still buy older 3D films.
All newer films, no.

Btw, a 4K player - what we have and our 65” TV is- plays standard Blu-ray and music CD-ROM and DVD ie Backwards compatible.
I have 3 Blu-ray players: PS3 which plays 3D/Blu-ray , a Sony 4K UHD/Blu-ray and a Sony home cinema player, which is 3D/Blu-ray also.

If you get the old nvidia driver, it does 3D, but of course you’ve got to have a 3D monitor or TV Connected plus either nvidia’s own glasses etc or passive.

You can get 4K 3D TVs here https://www.electronicworldtv.co.uk/cheap-3d-tvs
