This article on why people pirate video games is actually pretty interesting. Here's an excerpt:
s video game piracy. Only through engaging (and learning from) the many root causes of the problem can the industry and those making games hope to get on top of it.
s. Steam's design and sales strategy is clearly beat

| I do pirate games, but always for demo-like purposes if I like the game and it runs well, I buy it. Used to preorder games but since there been circling some pretty messed up ports don't do this anymore. |

Because runs faster and don't install dirty protection crap that makes undesired accesses into and outer your machine.
If the companies distribute unprotected games at $5, everybody buy them and the companies still earn money (or more...) |

Customers choice... When I see videos of people running over each other because of some Air Jordans, I don't expect them to wait until a game is patched / polished well enough and it's price is acceptable.
I bought Metal Gear Solid V on the steam summer sale for 5 bucks, now I need to wait until I upgraded my rig, to be able to play. Patience is key. 8) |

I'm kind of tired of the whole debate. Piracy isn't a problem (if we're talking private copying) and it never truly has been. Game companies are making money hand over fist regardless. The only kind of piracy I really dislike is organized copyright violations like when factories churn out copies of physical goods and cut into the market of the actual creators.
In the final analysis, whatever perceived problem there is, the issue isn't even about copying. It's about running the world on capitalism and money. The problems arise from the fact that the entire system is logically insane, especially in a world where we could give everyone everything they need and most of what they wanted if we just learned to cooperate. Piracy is a symptom, not a primary cause. I'd much rather we looked at the cause, because that is the cause of virtually all the other problems we have too. |

There is no problem.
There are countries that have 10$+/hour wages, those same countries have the rest of the world working for less than 2$/hour. Well, "the rest" find 30-50$ for the game to be too much so they download it for free (well, they still contribute to economy and industry, they pay for hardware, electricity, internet etc. ) but we know that i order for the 1st world countries to have 10$+/hour we have to be in the gutters so yea, we will DL games for free and sometimes buy games if they are going to be long-lasting multiplayer games or something.
So there is no problem. If people working for low income ( ~3500$ per YEAR) cannot pirate a game, rest assured they are not going to pay for it either. Sale that cannot be made is not a sale that's lost.
Now if someone from, say USA, is pirating the games because he can, that is a problem. He is not stealing but he is being a douchebag. |

lol
No, it does not.
Games are easier to crack than ever before on Steam as one crack can be applied to all games released around the same time. |
