For those of you wondering why the PC version of Titanfall has a 48GB install (compared to 16GB on the Xbox One), here is your answer.
he bloated file size on PC comes from developer Respawn's attempt at making the game compatible with as many machines as possible. Specifically, the game includes 35GB of uncompresse

HDD space is not an issue nowadays, but download speeds/times (and metered internet) are.
I know little about Steam (or, whereever this monster gets delivered) - do those compress this thing during the download?
Is it known how much data you actually need to download?
I am pretty sure that Steam - with all its bells and whistles, including anti-debug code and similar rubbish - use more CPU than an MP3 or Vorbis decoder. Decoding audio does not take much CPU (I see <1% right now and on my previous PC 5 years ago it was 2-3%). If the real concern were CPU power, I would have opted for Steam-less gaming with compressed audio.
Also, I wonder about access times in case one has to put it on a HDD because there's no room on the SSD (or, simply one does not have an SSD). Slow access times will slow the game down far more than decoding audio would. When it comes to exotic configurations, programmers can give a pretty good estimate on CPU consumption for audio decoding one every rig, but they have no way to predict access times. Heck, I might be playing it over the network.
They should cache the frequently played audios (gunshots, footsteps, etc.) decompressed in the memory and keep rarely used stuff like voiceovers and music compressed on the disk (and decompress it on-the-fly). |

| Nothing but a crock and hopefully they fix it. This is the first game to make my 560 groan and to be honest, while it has good gfx it's nothing I think should strain my card. Not to mention the recommended specs are far below my video card. I'm not going to run out to the store and upgrade my video card yet like some people do, I'll wait and I expect with a few patches things will smooth out just like the beta which ran great. The game is great fun regardless of the video lag. |

Decompressing MP3 these days takes like 1% of the most slow systems.
What the fuck are they yeaping about.
