ering Architect at DICE working on Frostbite and future DICE/EA games, tweeted:
We\'ll have Frostbite-powered games in 2013 that will _require_ a 64-bit OS. If you are on 32-bit, great opportunity to upgrade to Windows 8 Whilst I doubt DICE is all too interested in fighting viruses with the NX-bit of an x64 syst

Are they trying to ensure WinDOS sales?
Or?
Are they panning to load the entire game to the memory or something? |

| This makes no sense. Upgrade to win8? There is winXP 64. How about win 7 64bit? So this only makes sense if the purpose of the statement is to promote win8 like someone said already, to ensure sales of that POS OS. That actually sounds cool for 8. POS OS is what I am going to call it from now on. |

| Yeah its a pretty frick'n bold move to tell your customer base to make such a radical requirement BUT when BF4 does get released many will have x64 anyway..all new OEMs are shipping with it anyway. My concern: what really will make BF4 better on an x64 platform then x32 to justify moving it there? This will be the first time in PC-dom a main-stream game is forcing an upgrade as major as this also AFAIK Halo of olde required Vista/DX10 at the time. |

just the memory allocation past the 3GB (2GB per app in 32bit OS) mark. It would suggest that you would need at least 6GB of system RAM because game might take up over 4GB of RAM. Considering that 64bit instructions do take more memory allocation, I am not sure if even 6GB would suffice for smooth system operation during gaming. On the + side: ddr3 RAM is dirt cheap unless you like to think that CL6 is faster than CL9 in real-world application and unless you suffer from fancy and shinny things in your computer case...I purchased 8GB of patriot CL9 sticks (4 of 'em) for ~55 eur. cheaper than the BF4 is going to be anyway ^^ |

Moving to 16Gb Ram because thats insanely cheap + I use my system to make money so makes only sense to invest. Can't do that remotely with consoles. Still.. gutsy move to request 64bit OS just to run a game but regardless all new sys are shipping with x64 which I have no issue with. |

Mind you, most of the world still runs previous generation PCs.
So, the target audience is clearly not the world, only a tiny subset of it. |
