IGN has an update on changes to the Diablo III beta:

Blizzard still appears to be toying with how active skills are swapped in and out. In Diablo III, you\'ll eventually unlock six slots to assign active skills and three slots for passive skills. These function as your character build and are easily modified, lettin

if I saw this right, when you level up you get skills, you don't choose which ones, you just get predefined ones and then you can either use them or not. That's quite a bit of an downgrade from previous Diablo games...if I am not mistaken

Wouldn't be REMOTELY surprised: almost every generation of games are basically dumber than the last to appeal to more players.

i dont see it as a downgrade, you still choose wich ones too use since you can have only 6 aktive and 3 passive out of 35 or something. and since they arent bound by a skill tree where you have to skill something you dont like to get to something else you need you actually have more freedom.
i mean lets face it in diablo 2 there was 1 right answer and 35 wrongs. sure you could play a javelin amazon or pot finding barbarien but they were shitty compared to the one perfect build we all looked up in the internet back then. (talking of classic d2 here)
so if they really can deliver on a big number of viable builds to play around with im a happy camper.

i admit the new system is more accessible for newbees but its also more complex. accessible dosent mean simple.

But I had a choice and I could respec if I don't like it. Now if I don't like barbarian's skills, what do I do? Smile

you still choose 9 skills out of 35 and for every skill you choose a rune out of i think 8 runes, who change the effeckt of the skill.

so even if you dont want to change your 9 skills you still have thousends of combination with runes. i really dont see how someone can call this simpler then the diablo 2 skill trees.
you have a lot more choices with this system then you ever had in diablo 2.
there was hardly any choice in d2 there was most of the time one maybe 2 speccs for class that worked well in hell.

well, I didn't see that in any of the videos I watched. If it is so, then my only complaint is that you can only take 9 skills.
I like the torchlight system better, at least until I try this one out my self.

I see nothing wrong in that video. It all looks good and I can't wait to get this hack and slash. Then there's torchlight which hopefully will be released soon.
