#5. Hackers and DRM are Turning Gaming into a Nightmarish Clusterfuck

Imagine if every time you drove your car, you had to first check in with the car manufacturer to confirm that it\'s you behind the wheel. Let\'s say that this relies on an Internet connection, and if

Who writes this garbage? Cracked.com now there's a great site. I'd like to crack the writer of this garbage over the head with a baseball bat. Not only that but there is NOTHING new or insightful in his story/opinion that I haven't already read years ago.

What a whiny bitch.

If that guy is seriously the big game making companies to abandon their cash cows that attract 14 year olds and take risks into creating new and original games, then he can well go and try to soak the Atlantic ocean with a sponge.

And then there are people that have the nerve to bash gamers are embarrasing. Bah.

What are you talking about? The article is talking about greed in companies, you are talking about cash cows. Games have earned money since forever. They made money when they didn't require online connection, didn't have DRM etc. What is happening now is hollywood type of thing. They want to earn even more money, and give you less and less in return making YOU their cash cow because they want to leave you no choice. They are even trying their best to cut corners everywhere they can, starting with digital distro that is XY times cheaper then printing media, labels, boxes etc. You charge the same but you don't have any expenses except for bandwidth, which is dirt cheap. Then they chop the final product into peaces and call some of the peaces DLC so they can make even more money.
It makes perfect sense - from their point of view. From mine, it makes no sense ergo I just download for free.

Witcher series has no DRM and it sells just fine. I bought both of them because I respect that. They give full game, CD, Box, manual etc. and they are charging less than EA charges their crap. Kudos to CDP.

Holy fucking shit.... A website dedicated to bashing gamers? Now that's a new low... I wonder what the author's impression about gamers will be when he sees me, since I'm not fat nor ugly. Very Happy

You don't like their policy? Don't buy what they're selling. But instead the public bends their arses and allow themselves to be buggered to new year. If people take a stand and boycott this kind of behavior, then the companies will get the message and move away from this idiocy. Remember Starforce, anyone?

Also, regarding gamers are embarrasing, that site is not bashing gamers (well, maybe the worst examples of them), but the so-called "gaming culture" that sites like kotaku and destructoid are trying to sell to kids. Read it more carefully and you'll see he has some very good points.

Ditto.
You know, the more I work in a large corporation, the more I think that game makers are not evil by nature. They are just plain dumb - I mean the decision makers. They see a nice slide set how piracy is evil and how DRM will boost their revenues, and bam, they are all over it as if it was the holy grail of boosting income. Problem is, there is no sanity check in the end and therefore there is no way of proving that the DRM had no positive impact on the sales figures whatsoever.
I really hope that the gaming community will prove with Witcher 2 that the DRM is nothing more but a well-presented marketing trick to milk the game houses (and ultimately, the end-users).

Hah, I guess that happens when a jock finds the internet.

Nothing better than to waste your time by ranting about people who waste their time. Very Happy
