I personally like what they are doing and it looks pretty much like DA1, the others probably hated DA1 anyway and are just complaining like most people tend to do.
I personally found the videos abit too short for my liking. |

The UI SUCKS!
"Cool, they turned it into Street Fighter!"
lol
Wtf have they done?!? or not done, this better be beta with alot more improvements to come. The actual combat enemy target selection is non existent? Would be nice to see who your team mates are targeting when you're not in control of them.
-Character portraits = DA1 better.. aside from the distracting colors, the style is horrid, definitely consolized, also the placement of characters was much better at the top left side. I'll say I'm not a fan of the circular hp/mana portraits/minmaps etc in DA1, but at least it had a decent theme and placement was right.
-Mini map - DA2 is more expanded but it looks to modern, DA1 at least had a styled UI theme/minimap to fit in with the medieval environment.
-Spell bar = DA1 FAR BETTER.. seriously this is the worst change, diagonal icons, really basic looking photoshop work, bland styling.. really crap
It really does look dumbed down like this... It's what I would imagine a beta DA1 might have looked like before someone came and actually polished it up.
Did they sack that guy?
DA1: Only thing i'd change in this are the circular character portraits and red spell bar background.
DA2: I'd go back the drawing board or rip DA1..

Wow, you have issues.
You really do need to stop trying to start a pc vs console war, it looks fine to me, but i am not the type to think it needs to be perfect to be good, this video is likely a beta footage, they likely just wanted to show you how you could fight.
Personally i would prefer more of a solo experience, but i can't complain, the footage looked great, if it needs balancing and polishing then great, but people need to stop bitching about the smallest things.
The only time when its a serious problem is when it stops working for ATI or Nvidia users or Intel or AMD users, but your issues are just pure looks, nothing more, i personally think it looks fine. |

wow you don't have any issues with something that looks like that!
"but your issues are just pure looks, nothing more, i personally think it looks fine."
yes I personally think it looks worse than the original. As you already mentioned their ain't enough gameplay footage to really make any judgment on actual gameplay mechanics.
"You really do need to stop trying to start a pc vs console war, it looks fine to me"
Well my standards haven't dropped, I was comparing it to its previous pc release really. Yes it looks fine, if by that you mean its playable. I'm just saying it could be better and I don't see why that shouldn't be the case when it should be an improvement from the previous game. |

| yes, this looks worse then DA1 (regarding UI). On a side note, they can ditch the minimap, it's useless, at least in DA1 areas were so small that lab mouse would could learn them in a minute. |

That's what the scripts where for in 2. It's dynamic; you told a particular character to attack by way of class/hit points/level or if they were attacking you or another party member, or when to use potions 25/50/75% healthetc, etc, etc. it's HUGE!! You couldn't have a way of showing what members were attacking whom or what, it would be a bloody mess visualy and distracting.
Characters are all over the place in combat, all you did was protect your own ass, it's clever*IF* you set up the scripts properly of course... |

scripts were overly complicated and thus generally useless. You set a general class script for each one, with mainly consists of setting attack mode and more importantly when to use potion/healing and that's it. More advanced approach would be to set casters NOT to cast any major spells so you could manually use them when YOU feel you should. Same for fighters, set them not to use abilities so you could trigger them when needed. All in all, that script system could have been done better and simpler. At least that's my opinion on it.
I would appreciate some sort of "don't go to far!" option way more |

@Stumpus yeah but what I'm getting at is that in game visual cues help very much. Just noticeable that their really isn't much of the way in visual cues being shown in this combat gameplay.
@gx-x I agree with those opinions, the scripts were for the most part barely used by me if at all I think. I hadn't played DA in what feels like ages now so I had just forgotten the scripts, I mainly played just managing other character special attacks and casts myself.
