Upgrading your video card but having a hard time deciding which
upgrade path you should take? HardOCP\'s GeForce GTX 580 vs. GeForce GTX
460 1GB SLI evaluation should help you decide which road is right
for
you. Here\'s a taster:
What strikes us about our gameplay experiences today is the fact that

| First off how many gamers actually play at that resolution? Next to nobody. Second of all, I play at 2048x1152 and I play at max AF quality already with no performance issues on a 24" screen. I have a gtx 260. I am sure if I got another one, at the fraction of the cost of a 460 my performance would even further warrant no need for cards that support a DX level nobody is releasing games for. All this is is a marketing push for nVidia. |

HardOCP at their failure again. nVidia pays them well, don't be mistaken about that. It has been a while now, some 2 years or so. I stoped reading them back then.
They are full of shit. They added apples-to-apples just a bit over a year ago because people started questioning their results. Their results are one of the most inconsistent on the web today. Eg. One card performs better in one test and worse in the other few weeks further...they've became pure joke as far as GPU testing goes. It's a shame, they used to be the best.
just look at their lines of text, sli 460 gives better fps overall but 580 is better with some AA here and there, and we all know (those of us who understand technology) that SLI shines in higher resolutions and/or with more AA compared to single GPU solutions. And yet they choose to praise gtx580 over 460 sli in resolutions bellow 2xxx x 1xxxx not to mention that for a price of gtx580 you can get at least three 460 cards...
@TOM:
AF hasn't been a performance hitter since 9800gt...As for gtx460, my price for them here is 160 euros. Gtx260 is 120 euros (no new cards since they are EOL) so you cannot get another one for a fraction of the price. As a matter of fact, one gtx460 is 30% faster than your gtx260 and it costs 30% more. Just right, don't you think? (not to mention cooler, less audible, lower power consumption and dx11 (which neither of us cares about. )) So I think you should give it more thought. I am not saying you should buy it, just give it more thought before you start talking like that. |
