Crysis 2 developer Crytek predicts that game
developers will eventually begin charging for their demos:
In an interview with industry site Develop, Crytek\'s co-founder Cevat
Yerli said he wasn\'t sure that a demo of Crysis 2 was going to be
released. He said: \uot;A free demo is a luxury we have in the game

This is a continuation of EA fucktard statements.
Well fear not. Razor, Reloaded and the lot, will give us all the demos we want! Let the retards of EA charge all they want.
What EA once again fails to understand is that if they don't stop coming up with these stupid ideas, people will turn against them even more and they might not even buy the games they would. |

Lol, those people are really dumb asses
I get the feeling that they just need a way to make some money, because more and more people dont buy them games anymore
To charge me for a demo, that will convince me not to buy the game because its crap - well, might work for someone |

| I thought the video games industry was or has surpassed the film industry in revenue, guess the recession hit them hard. No surprise that many programmers, developers and artists are being sacked by their corporations. Another "efficiency saving" measure to appease the shareholders, guess this was inevitable with the emergence of monopolizer EA. |

Well now you will see the demise of the PC games industry. unless it's supported by a bunch of naysayers -which wouldn't surprise me seeing as they are happy to spend several hundred bucks on a SINGLE bloody graphic card ROFL!!
To the point, Who on earth will buy a PC game when they can't guarantee if it will work on their machine or not? Case in question; Poliicalmaestro (i think) complained about GTA being a slide show on his rig, yet he meets its specs -probably more than recommended?
The addon comes out and a patch is released at the same time, that's how problematic the PC gamnes industry is. NOTHING works out the box on EVERYONES PC. Which is why i left it.
NO game churns out a constant fps. One section it's in the 100s, next it's back down to single or double figures. fuck that!
So now you are expected to BUY a demo!! Sure if it's like the 90's and shareware? (1/3 of the game) But it's NOT.
What does this say for the future of patches then? Are you going to be made to BUY patches/support too?? Don't be surprised if it happens.
I personaly don't give a fuck for the PC games industry now, i had it in its prime for the past 15-18years, but this is exploitation for what exactly? Anyone explain rationaly? not a tirade of verbal diatribe.
I pay a bit more for my PS3 games, but they WORK out the box and i can trade them in -unlike anything PC.
If ever there was an obvious reason that PC gaming is and WILL die, it's now!
Makes you feel great to spend upwards of 100s to 1000s of bucks per year on PC hardware/gaming only for games not to work on them eh? and now you don't even get a chance to test or RENT a pc game before you buy it -never mind if you don't or do like it ,it probably WONT work on your PC anyway ROFL |

Seems to be some confusion Stumpus, the last time i upgraded my pc was early 2009. Yes i have enough ram and disk space with the standard i7 920 2.66 processor as for the gfx its a bog standard 9800 gt. The last rig was a basic 2.66 pentium 1gig ram and that lasted almost four years and this will last even longer. I dont play as much games as i used to and only look forward to real gems unlike the majority of people that "dash for the trash" regurgitated by the industry like a production line without originality or enjoyability.
I will always choose a PC over a console for games because there's a chance it could be modable and the scope for PC platform games is immense unlike the console that has only one sole purpose. Besides i use the PC for other things and until the console can outperform the PC on the functionality and versatility then i wont be converted, enjoy your thumbs while they last lol. |

You seem to be certain that EA's and Crytek's plans to charge for the demos, are solely targeted for the PC? What makes you so sure that they won't ask for money on XBOX Live or PS3 online or however the hell they are called?
Moreover, you are being extremely unfair to the PC. Yes, many games have many bugs, but don't forget that a game developer has to take into consideration a million different configurations. For a console there are standard configurations.
During the past couple of months I have played, finished and greatly enjoyed, Mass Effect 2, Bad Company 2, Supreme Commander 2, Bob came in pieces, Borderlands and some others, all in glorious 1080P with an abundance of framerate, brought to me by my faithful PC!
So there you have your reason why anyone would go for a PC. I want my games at 1920X1080+4XAA. I didn't pay my superb Philips HDTV to be stuck at 720P, no thank you. Even if an AA option is not there, you can say a big FUCK YOU and go to ATI's or NV's control panels and enforce the bastard!
PCs are more expensive than a console, but they are a much higher grade platform, in which you have quite a wide selection of OSes to choose from, you can download stuff, watch movies/clips/videos in any format, listen to music in any format, have emulators to play older games and some times in better quality than the original (dolphin, pcsx2 etc), do some hobbyist audio or video editing and many more. So what are you comparing man? |

WHy do people always have to derail the topic....this is not about PC vs consoles (each has their place by the way). Its about a bunch of tards at EA...death of the PC industry though? I think not.
You've only got to look at Valve and their steam platform as an example of PC gaming booming....never been healthier.
If this results in people buying less EA games then so be it...maybe one day they will realise their error and take up a better business model like valve! |

There seems to be GREAT confusion here.
The whole point is that -as i have said- i have played and built my own machines for years BUT and it is a BIG BUT! The amount of games that have many, many bugs and hardware issues is why you will not see demos anymore. It's easier to HIDE a game and force the gamer to buy than it is to release a demo and REDUCE game sales.
Pslord, you've missed my point that i put in my original post.
The console owner can RENT ALL titles for a measly few bucks per month.
I rent blue ray films and PS3,PSP,DS games for just over 2 bucks per title and can keep them as long as i want to keep them. In comparisson to the FULL price of a PS3/XBox title or whatever it's NOTHING!
So if EA or whomever want to charge us for demos it's DEAD before it gets out the door. lol
Besides as i have said, if you buy a PS3 or XBox title etc, it WILL work out the box -unlike -as again- i have said PC titles, which need patches de facto.
I watch and play on a 46" Sony and since i can mess around with as many options from sharpening the image to changing color tint, missing out on a bit of AA doesn't interest me as much as solid GAMEPLAY. Pretty useless if it's pumping out an inconsistent slide show as per the PC can and does do.
I can honestly say that on my 46" at 15ft away, you can barely make out any slight jaggies.
As for the PC, i have a quite happy ATI radeon 4850 512mb that plays a back catalogue of titles till kingdom come! You think i play a console all day?? My point i'm making is -you blindly can't see it yet make dissin remarks about publishers! Gee whizz.... is forget about how good or NEW your machine is, it's ONLY as good as the NEXT game code. Which is why publishers will make you pay for their crap code and commit to a poor unfinished game. Understand?
Me? i'll continue to rent-to-try my games, just like MILLIONS of others do, but can't with PC. Means it costs me peanuts to buy PS3 titles in the long run |

Well yeah, the thread is derailed, but what the hell. It seems we all agree to the failure of the demo charging scheme.
@Stumpus
If you have a decent PC, you don't have to worry about most games. For the games that are just awful, turn your head the other way. Easy!
Now if you don't want to follow a sensible upgrade path, it's your prerogative. This is how it was and always will be. I.e. don't curse at Yerly if Crysis 2 runs like crap on your system. Dude if you are happy with your console, I am twice as happy for you.
Also, if you don't want to own things, but to rent them instead, please go ahead. I am a strong supported of ownership and I support Valve's steam vigorously, although they are screwing Europeans with that stupid 1$=1€ policy. I just buy with my own terms. |

No again you miss my point, i rent so i can TRY a title without the rediculous outlay of buying full price.
If i like a title on either of my formats, i can then buy and be assured it's the game i want + i already have my game save from renting it
If consoles can rent titles AND still make HUGE profits on game sales, eg10x what is made on PC games per title. Then why doesn't the PC rent games? Well it's obvious eh? It's because of the MASSIVE piracy and DRM activation and so forth. The PC is MORE controlled than any other format going! Nigh on everything installed has to stay put on your system and can't be sold on. That's another reason -apart from crap code- why i hate it more than ever.
With the console you can make between 50-90% profit on a trade in per game.
I'm sitting with approx 500PC titles that are worth jack shit! Even although there are very collectable titles in there from the early 90s. To me they are priceless. To sell on is worthless as the person HAS to have specific machines to play them on. ie legacy right through to present machines. I had at one time 6 PCs that ran different hardware and configs. some had to have LESS RAM and slower CPUs, some had custom configs more/less buffers. One ran a monster 2mb 3DFX on a matrox/Mystique one had a Voodoo3, one had 2 sli Voodoo2s to run older DOS games, duel boot DOS/Win3.11 and soooo forth. Crazy!!!
That's why those that NEVER went through the late 80s to the 90s haven't a clue why some people HATE the restrictions that are here today and NEVER know what it is to build a machine from scratch and have free reign on OS, game installs etc. |

| Regardless of what you guys say, you can get a torrent, problem solved. You can use this to substantiate yourselves into not buying the game. Sure! But if the game is good you know you'll be the first one knocking on the store doors to get in and get yourself a copy. I'm not buying any other games for my PS3.. After Sony took away my OtherOS, they just screwed themselves out of future sales by me. |
