Is Microsoft\'s decision not to support upgrades
from Windows XP to Windows 7 going to be a problem? Does this matter to
you?

Microsoft is also ignoring the countless businesses that stuck with XP. I hate to admit it, but I work at one of them. Sure, I\'m surrounded by PCs running Vista, Win 7, and even the Mac OS

Funny, I actually planned on upgrading to Windows 7.

But if I can't upgrade from XP they can suck my balls.

You can get the upgrade edition, but you can't do a straight upgrade from XP keeping your settings, etc.

that's because moving from XP to Microshite's latest and crappest improvement Win7 is actually a fucking downgrade... or an upgrade if you've been using its previous shit Vista.. now you know why Razz

I mean Explorer -minus any sort of decent shell enhancement = Vis7a shit.

taskbar -minus any decent shell enhancement = Vis7a shit.

I could go on.. but a way more customizable XPSP3 setup is far far better than any broken defaulty Vis7a shit.

Why would you want to upgrade XP anyhow? You want to bring old trash onto a new OS? How long does it take to backup stuff? Gimme a break. To me that's just idiotic. You move to a new OS and you go 64bit, you don't upgrade. LOL! That's not to say on the new OS you can't still run all your games you had installed. Most do run with or without the registry entries. If you were knowledgable at all you could backup most of your game registry entries and just import them into Vista/Win 7. Some of my games are 2 OS's ago and they play without issue, no registry entries or some just recreated them on their own. When a game doesn't add to Games folder I use a nifty side program to add them in seconds.

Win7 addresses more memory than XP and that's only a good thing.

Win7 has way better diagnostic tools you practically need nothing else.

Win7 desktop takes more advantage of good graphics cards.

Win7 allows you to use your 64bit hardware in 64bit.

Win7 handles more applications at one time no matter how cpu intensive they are. For Example, I can run Visual Studio, Photoshop and COD4 Radiant as well as play a movie with like zero hiccup. I also stream to my PS3 throughout the day. I'm not just talking about a few hours, I'm talking an entirety of a day, and coming back, clearing the screen saver and continuing like nothing happened. Sorry XP didn't and doesn't do that. As a matter of fact XP gets sluggish the more time it is up.

I've been testing Win 7 and though it's good I'm sticking with Vista myself, because at Win 7 core it's really Vista anyhow. I wouldn't recommend anyone upgrading from Vista unless for the additional gui tweaks. Why spend money on the same OS twice is how I look at it. My games and everything runs great on Vista so I'm gonna skip until Win 7 has a service pack or two. I'm in no rush.

Would I ever go back to XP. Hahahahahaha, NEVER. XP is garbage in comparison, old/dated and I want all my hardware to be used not just some of it. I want my new hardware to provide for current standards. Very important too when I play games.

As for companies not going with Vista or XP, well a lot of companies are on the 'cheap' these days and they don't want to hire more IT or send people for re-training because it costs money. We are still in an econmic downturn you know? Some companies also have monkeys or old people who don't care to move with the times. Things at most companies have run XP for a long time and lots of people are cushy staying with the old crap. Good for them. In all companies there are always those that run other OS's, those are the people who are in the "know" and find that the newer OS's do more for them. I am one of those guys. As a matter of fact I run Win 2003 32bit, Win 2008 64bit and 32bit, CentOS, Vista 64bit at work.

If you want to sit and criticize Vista or Win 7 have a clue because a lot of what I read in this thread is people without a clue or just go on what other people say like a sheep who can't follow his own path. Sad.

vista was never a problem for 99% of people, the squeaky wheel gets the oil so that retarded bunch of people who complained bitterly either used a mac and just wanted to badmouth microsoft, or should have been using mac because lets face it, design something any idiot can use and only idiots will use it.

You are a cleary a noob.. XP doesn't have any problem running lots of applications for a long period of time at all. And win7 32bit doesn't address anymore memory than XP32... its only the 64bit versions and so does the XP64 only that still way more working apps/extensions.. so once again stfu instead of spreading noob bullshit.

And to say XP doesn't utilize hardware .. jeesh cleary your noob mentalilty hasn't allowed it to sink in that vis7a actually does a fucking worse job of utilizing audio hardware.. as for gfx well sure aero ui uses the gpu, but thats just gpu getting used so when you're using 3d applications its just more shit for your gpu to do.. XP still has far more mature gfx drivers..

"Sorry XP didn't and doesn't do that. As a matter of fact XP gets sluggish the more time it is up. "

cleary a noob.

so STFU because you are a fucking noob without a fucking clue using vis7a shit because you think new hardware needs a new n00b OS>. Well I use new hardware with a customized XPSP3 that isn't fucking crippled.. like the shitty explorer you noobs use in vis7a.

DarkNothing- Supposedly yes, the RC was about equal to Vista, the final should be a bit more polished & once proper Win7 drivers come out (they use a slightly different model but 7 can use Vista drivers) it should only go up.

Genoism- Wait for the benchmarks, unless you have the money to spare!

With hardware that's available these days though, you don't really need to worry about frame rates any more, unless you're playing Crysis on a 30" monitor or something..

Well I misread it (ok didn't fully read it).

I assumed it meant I couldn't buy the upgrade edition if I was coming from XP.

I'd agree "upgrading" as in installing Win7 over the top of XP (or ANY version over the top of any other) is idiotic.

I tend to reformat & do a full reinstall about every 6 months anyway just for the hell of it.

As long as I can just buy the upgrade edition I'll probably switch...after about 6 months of the dust settling and letting other people deal with it's problems first.
