| Love L4dD for the speed, quantity and fluidity of the zombies (and Co-Op play) and DS for it's ambiance and structure. I've always thought those aspects of Doom were missing since doom2. |

I`m all for story, if they implement it well.
The only games that get away without good story are puzzle games.
Then again, I really freaking hate multiplayer shooters like Counterstrike, TF, etc. |

Yeah, Painkiller had it just right. It wasn't Doom, but it had THE classical FPS gameplay and wasn't boring or repetetive, in fact it was incredible!
Well, anyway a good story won't hurt. I don't think we'll be falling in love with a demon or have deep regrets of betrayal after killing one. So why not pack some interesting story in there? Even though Painkiller had incredible gameplay I felt the game would benefit from a decent plot. |

I can't see how iD software could fail anymore than they already do at the games they release nowadays, bit like Epic Fail making really shit PC games. .. sure they may still sell and a make a profit but how many still play those games or go back to them.. nah they are shit in so many ways... quake4, doom3, quakewars all had flaws that make them forgetable. And yet I'll still go back and play quake2(singleplayer) q3 multiplayer(a bit, live quake = shit) Ut2004 (though the original UT had the best soundtracks)
I wouldn't waste my time installing any of the newer ones again though, and I don't really care about storylines, what I do care about is the gameplay, replayablity, leveldesign, soundtrack, ui and probably a gazillion other things to go into detail but its the overal balance of everything.. I get the feeling its just too much focus on gfx and making shity nub games for the console market to be ported back to pc which =fail and fuckoff
and leveldesign is pretty damn huge, doom3 ultimatly failed mostly because of its change in level design and crap multiplayer experience.
last decent fps game to provide a damn good replayable singleplayer game(with storyline) and have a multiplayer side that is still popular is Half life2, and call of duty1,2,4 aswel I suppose. |
