| I know, but still. Picture it with ragdoll nazis, bumpmapped swastikas, and the dark corriders they can map now with the engine. I cant wait for this one. |

but RTCW2 will cost money, and you'll therefore have less players.
Not so good for RTCW2... unless they let pirate copies also play. |

| I truly doubt RTCW2 will be anywhere close to a hit. The first one was overhyped and magazines were salivating when they wrote their reviews and where is RTCW now? There was nobody playing the game, they cancelled and expansion and the let loose an addon Behind Enemy lines for free just to get people interested. It might look impressive with Doom3 engine etc, but again you need some sort of base community to get they interest and RTCW doesn't have much going at all for it right now. At least they can finally drag this last shot in hell through the mud..but I'll wait and see and not jump to judgement. =) |

XXXX, i'm going to have to disagree with you on this. I know you're an nVidia fanboy too so i'll be ....restrained.
RTCW was and still is a great game, but there are already sooooo many similar games it didn't stand out.
Behind Enemy Lines wasn't a huge or popular hit because like other free games - America's Army comes to mind - they aren't on the shelves so non-broadband owners don't download them. And this limits their audience. And there is a mentality that if something is free, it has to be s***. You get what you pay for -- just look at linux.
RTCW's multiplayer objectives is nothing short of brilliant. It's complex yet easy to learn, and offers an engaging & unique form of teamplaying. It's not kiddy-simplified like all the games EA releases. What it did not have going for it was the small number of maps. It gets a little boring playing the same map over and over and over. This is the reason i hate Counter-strike, i convulse when i see DE_DUST2.BSP loading.
So your last comment is correct, you should wait and see and not judge because this title has potential. Whether it has the doom3 engine is not really important (okay it is, i have a kicka** system and i want to see it maxed out ) because if they can improve on the gameplay it will definitely be a hit.
Ok. I'll get off the soap box. Your turn now if you'd like. |

As with nearly all SP fps shooters, once the game is finished as a SP experience the MP LIVES ON!
There are dozens of servers still running RTCW MP and have done since RTCW shipped -the SAME ones. -Servers are still at FULL capacity, but then you would know that if you have the game and played it.... There are also continual mods being made for it.
Your assumption could be said about Half-Life1 then also? It's dead, gone, finito but it's MP -and it's mods- are probably some of the biggest played MP games in the WORLD. -although i wouldn't touch CS with a barge pole!
Enemy Territory was released as a FREEBIE purely because Grey Matter couldn't get the bots to work in offline -why bin months of work when there's nowt wrong with the network code? Result free MP addon,Grey Matter are working on the Battlefield series as far as i know? ET was,and still is, one of the best CO-OP MP games released. It requires proper teamwork for the game to work, the same for RTCW. Which is more than can be said for a LOT of MP games nowadays. The voice chat/taunt commands in RTCW have to be up there with the best -Others have copied but none have excelled
RTCW2 *WILL* create another HUGE following, since the base is already present and ACTIVE.The only thing that will ruin it of course is if we get bad map level designs. As one person has said, it's MP play IS nothing short of EXCELLENT. |
