Microsoft has confirmed that its latest Windows 11 security update, KB5089549 (released May 12, 2026), fails to install on devices with 10 MB or less free space on the EFI System Partition. The update stalls at 35-36% during restart, rolls back changes, and shows error 0x800f0922, leaving users frustrated

This looks like a pretty critical edge-case bug, especially for devices with limited EFI partition space. Rolling back at 35–36% with error 0x800f0922 could confuse a lot of users. Hope Microsoft addresses it soon.

I used to get this with my old Win 10 machine.
I always sorted it by doing this:

Mount the EFI partition by assigning a temporary drive letter (e.g., Z: ). Type mountvol Z: /s and press Enter.

Access the font folder: cd Z:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\FontsDelete the font files by typing del *.* (press Y and Enter to confirm).Unmount the drive by typing mountvol Z: /d

Worked every time.
