How is this surprising to anybody?
Nvidia needs an official and legally acceptable way of getting rid of the card that does not get them into lawsuits.
Quoting a certain mandalorian: This is the way!
The don't want to make GPUs and they don't want to make mid-range GPUs, they made these abundantly clear.
So, what remains are the high-end cards for the super-rich and low-end cards for the nobodies.
Low-end will eventually disappear because people will simply start buying AMD GPUs instead, leaving them with having to produce maybe a 1000 high-end GPUs per year with a huge margin in their AI chip production lines.
They'll start making AI accelerators instead, which can act as GPUs, too.
It's a sad future for gamers, great for AMD.
Intel might catch up eventually, but they won't support older OSes and games, so they won't get the masses; only new, young users that don't care about historic titles.
