Twitch Will Introduce More Than 10 Specific Categories for Streamers (hx) 11:53 AM CET - Nov,12 2018
Twitch the popular live streaming video platform captured the hearts of
many gamers with its casino section. This made it possible for players
to enjoy a thrilling gaming experience with other people who share the
same interests. With a Twitch account, you can stream various games you
like including live titles such as hot roulette to thoroughly enjoy gaming
activities. Even better news for Twitch users is that it announced that
will introduce more specific categories for the streamers. In the past,
the platform only had two categories, i.e Creative, and IRL.
The company saw that these were not enough because they were too broad
and did not accurately paint a picture of the content that was
available for streaming. It saw it fit to have both gaming and
non-gaming categories catering to the different needs of streamers.
Have a look at some of the dedicated tabs that will be available on the
platform.
- Just Chatting - This will be a section that is dedicated to
conversations that viewers and streamers hold. It is just like when you
are warming up when you first start streaming, doing live vlogging or
even handling Q&As.
- Art - It is designed for all creatives like artists who come up
with pieces like illustrations, paintings, photography, comics, and
many more. You can use this whether you employ traditional or digital
techniques.
- Science and Technology - It is best when you are streaming
activities such as gaming designs, software development, engineering,
robotics, and science experiments.
- Crafts and Hobbies - The section has been put in place for
individuals who are working on DIY projects or crafting some real-world
objects. It can include things such as sewing, making costumes, LEGO,
sculpture, metalwork, woodwork and lots more.
- Travel and outdoors - This will come in handy for travel
enthusiasts. It covers the talking and walking needs of people who are
exploring their hometowns or discovering new locations.
- Food and Drink - The section covers anything from preparing
meals, cooking them, consuming them and everything that is found in
between. It covers the culture, creation, and consumptions of various
foods and drinks.
- Tabletop RPGs - This is a category that will
ensure you can stream all the tabletop RPGs that you adore.
- Beauty and Body Art - Streamers can take advantage of this
category when they want to stream skincare routines, makeup, tattooing,
body painting, etc.
- Music and Performing Art - People who enjoy singing, dancing,
creating music, playing instruments, and anything else that touches on
music and performing arts will thoroughly enjoy the category.
- Sports and Fitness - Whether you are training alone or
participating in a team sport, the section will feature all the things
that you would do in a gym and plenty more.
- ASMR - Twitch will not offer a centralized place that will have
AMSR content.
- Special Events - This will carry some of the biggest events that
may include PAX, TwitchCon, and E3. Here you can also expect to find
various announcements from game developers as well as publishers.
- Podcasts and Talk Shows - This will feature updates from all
podcasts out there.
The new categories will be available on the Browse page so that users
can easily access them. Additionally, Twitch will also be doing away
with the communities replacing them with Tags. The tags will enable
streamers to describe their stream regardless of the game that they are
participating in.
The streamer will be in charge of setting the tags and he/she will be
free to have as many as 5 tags on the Live Dashboard. These will appear
alongside stream title, video thumbnail, and the category or game you
are interested in. Some of the tags will, however, be chosen
automatically by Twitch.
The reasons the company had to do this was to make sure that users
could explore a full range of content instead of being limited to
gaming only. It was a move that would also help enhance the visibility
for non-gaming streamers. This will most likely increase the number of
unique streamers where more people will be in a position to make money through the company’s partner program.
All the above changes will most likely go live in September, but the
dates are not set on stone.
