Ghost Master Preview
(hx) 06:52 PM CET - Mar,26 2003

Publisher Empire Interactive recently sent us a preview copy of Ghost Master, their upcoming haunting management strategy game currently in development at Sick Pupies. Ghost Master combines game-play elements from traditional sims, strategy, and resource management games and places them in an atmospheric setting inspired by classic horror movies.

You play the role of a new "Ghost Master", an afterlife civil servant, assigned the task of uncovering the mystery of Gravenville. You're sent to the mortal realm with an initially small team of ghosts and spooks that you can augment by laying local ghosts to rest. To discover what's going on in Gravenville you'll have to manipulate and scare the mortals with your team of "haunters" while keeping an eye on your resources and watching out for any dangers or enemies along the way. You will have to harness psychic energy, known as plasm to generate all manner of ghostly and psychic phenomena - literally scaring all the people away. In other words, you gain plasm by scaring people, so the more scared they are, the more plasm you have and the more you can scare them further! You must also make use of the history of the location you are assigned to haunt and gradually build up enough plasm to summon ghosts and spirits from the Spirit World. These spirits help you build up the Fear Factor, and eventually drive away the mortals and achieve victory.

Ghost Master features over 20 levels in various locations (from sorority and fraternity houses, through a police station, farm, ship and train to a gothic mansion, hospital and army base), over 50 unique ghosts (including spooks, banshees, gremlins, spectres, phantoms, poltergeist, shadows, wraiths, wights, elementals and headless horsemen) and over 100 unique mortals, over 130 powers for you spirits to haunt with.

Ghost Master is totally original game, if you are a fan of resource management games, or just looking for something original and different, keep an eye out for this game. Ghost Master should be available in May 2003.

this game is orginial but uninteresting big deal so a couple AI characters will get spooked out. after a while it will just get boring and dumb.

It will not just get boring and dumb! Each level has a special objective you complete such as getting the people to do a seance, or somehow force them into the woods. Also, in the levels you can free and add other ghosts to your team, each with a different power, improve your ghosts' scare techniques with gold plasm, think up strategies to create ultimate horror, and a lot more! Please, don't listen to that other guy, Ghost Master is going to knock your socks off! (To that other guy: HA)

this game is like watching a movie. Once you watch it all the high stunts and special effects don't surpise you. It lacks repalyability. Its more of a children's game. It will get boring real fast. i would strongly advise playing the demo if one is realised before buying the game.not all are humans are weak pathetic creatures as projected in this game. The graphics look awesome though.

not enough violence. its too tame. people who like action games avoid this game it will get boring. people who like funny games may like this game. However its a "one trick pony" game. once ya see it its over and its going into that dark dusty corner of your room. What is that place? I DON'T KNOW YOU TELL ME!?

If you like strategy and simulation (like Majesty, The Sims, Lords of the Realm, Black&White) you're going to thoroughly enjoy this game. If you like first-person-shooters and car races, no you probably won't find much replayability in Ghost Master. Personally I love this game. Towards the end of Act II it becomes increasingly difficult and it takes some real ingenuity to complete the missions AND free all the trapped souls around Gravenville. I never get tired of finding new ways to use my ghosts and not only terrifying the crap out of the characters, but eventually making them go insane. Now that's entertainment.
