Spider-Man
(hx) 02:05 AM CEST - Oct,11 2001

Spider-Man is a 3rd-person action platform game that finally arrived on the PC (after Playstation, Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, and Game Boy Color incarnations) for some wall-crawling and web-slinging action. The plot is the stuff of typical comic book action, just for Spider-Man fans. I have seen some negative reviews, but I don't think this game is holy crap :) Rather I would say the game is quite good, but suffers from excessive cloning. I played through the whole game and I liked it (though there is no blood), well maybe I'm weirdo :) Spider-Man can be played in kid mode, easy, medium or hard, and as you progress through the game you will fight and find little comic books. But don't expect you will need your nevereding brainpower, Spider-Man primarily revolves around platform jumping, a little stealth, and beating up lots and lots of bad guys. So really don't expect puzzles and crap like that :) It's classic "PLATFORM" gam! However the visuals aren't top notch. The game looks a bit ancient, because Spider-Man wasn't originally designed for PC. Also camera control sometime sucks, but it's common problem often found in third-person action games. It could be worse :) The game controls aren't much cool too, I strongly recommend to use gamepad with at least six buttons. This game is for people who enjoy third person action games and especially for Spiderman fans. But if you have no gamepad, I wouldn't recommend it. Download playble demo (135MB).

snd: 3/5 - mediocre, but cool theme song witch incredibly catchy bass riff, sound effects are well done
gfx: 3/5 - simply textured, looks ancient, characters look downright cubic, poor 3D acceleration
playability: 4/5 - enjoyable, over 30 levels across New York City, awkward controls, very poor AI of bad guys, no multiplayer
genre: 3rd-person action platform
release: September 2001
developer: LTI Gray Matter
publisher: Activision
Good
Overall: 66%

The game is fun for less than $20 bucks -- my 3 year old loves it and helps with hand/eye - the videos mentioned above are nice to play for the kids, but are much for the serious player -- looking forward to future enhancements in newer games
