Yesterday, Pearl Abyss released Title Update 1.01.00 for Crimson Desert. And today, the team released an emergency patch that comes with some fixes that were not included in the previous update. So, let’s take a closer look at it. Patch 1.01.01 fixes an issue where the “Use” button for the Talisman of the 5 new mounts appeared on Damiane and Oongka. It also fixes an issue where Blackstar remained flying in place after death instead of disappearing. This new update will also fix an issue where the A.T.A.G was not destroyed even when its Health reached 0. Furthermore, it will fix an issue where holding down the button to follow NPCs during missions on horseback caused the horse to move abnormally.

A Valve developer confirmed the action stemmed from in-depth investigations aided by player reports, targeting scripted bot networks that farm item drops and skins.

The move aims to clean up the game's economy and improve fair play for legitimate users. Valve encouraged the community to continue reporting suspicious activity via email for future enforcement efforts.

$4,000 Audio Cable vs. $7 Amazon Basics: Test Proves They're Identically Uselessly Expensive - tech
(hx) 06:13 PM CEST - Mar,29 2026 - Post a comment / read (2)
A rigorous blind test by Audio Science Review has demolished the myth of premium audio cables, showing that a high-end $4,000 Kimber Kable RCA interconnect performs no better than a $7 Amazon Basics cable. Using professional Audio Precision analyzer equipment, both cables delivered identical results for distortion, frequency response, phase, and jitter, with the cheap cable even showing marginally lower noise. The findings confirm what audio engineers have long known: competent basic cables transmit signals perfectly for high-fidelity audio without any audible or measurable advantage from luxury pricing. This latest evidence adds to decades of blind tests proving that perceived differences in expensive cables stem almost entirely from placebo and expectation bias.

Crimson Desert looked and ran rather nicely at 4K ultra in our preview coverage with a 7900X3D processor paired with an RX 7900 XTX - but what about optimised settings and a far less capable PC? Contributor Rayan delivers DF optimised settings, while Rich maps them across to a rather more modest Ryzen 5 3600/RTX 4060 PC. In the process we learn where the game is CPU and GPU limited - and it still holds up fairly well.

SSD Prices Skyrocket as AI Demand and Production Cuts Squeeze Consumers! - tech
(hx) 08:17 PM CET - Mar,28 2026 - Post a comment / read (1)
Gamers Nexus has released a deep-dive video explaining the sharp surge in SSD prices, driven largely by booming demand from data centers and AI servers. NAND flash spot prices have exploded nearly 9x in recent months, outpacing even DRAM increases, while consumer 2TB SSDs have jumped dramatically in cost. Manufacturers like Samsung and SK Hynix are deliberately reducing NAND production capacity to prioritize higher-margin enterprise drives despite the shortages. NVIDIA's upcoming Vera Rubin servers and broader AI infrastructure are projected to consume a growing share of global NAND supply in the coming years. Analysts warn that consumer SSD prices are likely to climb further in the near term.

Valve Enhances Steam Regional Pricing with Flexible Options for Global Gamers - briefly
(hx) 03:43 PM CET - Mar,28 2026 - Post a comment / read (3)
Valve has updated its Steam pricing tools, giving developers three options for setting regional game prices: simple currency exchange rates, purchasing power parity (PPP) based on local affordability, or a multi-variable mix of data sources.

For a $60 USD game, prices in Europe could now range from as low as €43 under PPP to €62 with other factors, making titles more accessible in varied economies. The change remains optional, so existing games keep their current pricing unless developers choose to update them.Community reactions praise the move for potentially reducing piracy, expanding player bases in lower-income regions, and highlighting Steam's player-friendly approach compared to competitors.
This update promises considerable benefits, especially for newly released games on Steam. Even if a developer or publisher opts for the simplest “Currency Exchange Rate Conversion,” the new standard now sets one US dollar at approximately 3.55 local currency units in the previously mentioned region. This is a substantial improvement over the old rate of 4.60, making games immediately more affordable.

Interestingly, the “Multivariable Conversion” method is currently the least favorable for players in some regions, with one US dollar converting to about 4.15 local currency units. However, Valve itself suggested an even more advantageous conversion in its internal assessments, proposing one US dollar could be valued as low as 2.25 local currency units, highlighting the potential for even greater savings if publishers utilize the purchasing power model effectively.

The impact of these changes can be dramatic. A game priced at 69.99 US dollars, which previously cost around 339 local currency units, could now be as low as 134.99 local currency units if the publisher fully incorporates purchasing power considerations. This represents a potential saving of over 200 local currency units on a single title, demonstrating the profound effect these new policies could have on player budgets.
