NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready 576.28 WHQL Driver - tech
(hx) 09:37 AM CEST - May,03 2025 - Post a comment
NVIDIA has released a new WHQL driver for its graphics cards. According to the release notes, the NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready 576.28 WHQL driver has all the fixes of the 576.15 and the 576.26 hotfix drivers. In other words, if you’re using the NVIDIA 576.26 hotfix driver, you don’t really need to update to this WHQL driver. The NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready 576.28 WHQL driver fixes a crash that could occur in Black Myth: Wukong when Wukong transformed. It also fixes some flickering issues with some background textures in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Red Dead Redemption 2, Horizon Forbidden West and Dead Island 2 should also no longer crash on the RTX 50 series GPUs. And that’s not all. The lights flicker issues in Forza Horizon 5 that could occur on all NVIDIA GPUs at nighttime should be fixed.

AMD Software Adrenalin 25.4.1 Beta Drivers - tech
(hx) 04:12 PM CEST - Apr,23 2025 - Post a comment
Yesterday, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 25.4.1 Optional Beta drivers that add FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Assassin's Creed Shadows, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Dynasty Warriors Origin, Civilization 7, and Naraka Bladepoint. It also brings Amuse 3 support and AMD-optimized models to Radeon RX 9000 and RX 7000 series graphics cards alongside Ryzen AI 300 series processors. Among the many fixes you'll find corrected lighting artifacts in Topaz Photo AI's Adjust Lighting features on RX 9000 series cards, removed flicker when using AMD FreeSync, improved DirectML and GenAI performance in Amuse 3.0 on RX 7000 GPUs and Ryzen AI 300 series chips, and patched image corruption in certain diffuser models on RX 9000 hardware.

The update also smooths out stutter and performance drops in World of Warcraft's Western Plaguelands, restores integrated camera detection after factory resets on Ryzen AI Max devices, and addresses AMD Chat installation hangs. Since this is still an optional beta with some known issues, like FSR 4 not activating in Naraka Bladepoint on Windows 10, crashes in The Last of Us Part 2, memory leaks in SteamVR on RX 9000 cards, or intermittent launch and stability hiccups in games like Cyberpunk 2077, Fantasy VII Rebirth, Battlefield 1, Monster Hunter Wilds and Marvel's Spider-Man 2, AMD recommends using the suggested workarounds such as disabling motion smoothing or integrated graphics in your BIOS and holding out for your system vendor's certified driver to ensure full compatibility.

Widespread Microsoft Entra lockouts tied to new security feature rollout - tech
(hx) 10:18 AM CEST - Apr,20 2025 - Post a comment / read (1)
Windows administrators from numerous organizations report widespread account lockouts triggered by false positives in the rollout of a new Microsoft Entra ID's "leaked credentials" detection app called MACE. These alerts and lockouts began last night, with some admins believing they were false positives as the accounts have unique passwords that are not used on any other sites or applications. Microsoft Entra ID, formerly Azure Active Directory, is a cloud-based identity and access management service that helps organizations manage user identities and secure access to resources. In a Reddit thread posted early this morning, Windows admins reported receiving multiple alerts from Entra indicating that some of their user accounts had been found with credentials leaked on the dark web or other locations. These accounts were automatically locked out of the tenant, with numerous users impacted per organization. "Us as well... about 1/3rd of our accounts got locked out about ~1 hour ago. We're a MSP so I'm assuming this is happening to our clients as well," posted an admin on Reddit. The locked-out accounts showed no signs of compromise, such as suspicious sign-ins, and were protected with MFA. Furthermore, breach notification services like Have I Been Pwned (HIBP) had no matches for these accounts.? Another report on Reddit further corroborated that this was widespread, with an MDR provider stating they received over 20,000 notifications from Microsoft overnight regarding leaked credentials from different customers

Windows 11 April Update Triggers BSOD, Breaks Windows Hello - tech
(hx) 05:05 PM CEST - Apr,17 2025 - Post a comment / read (1)
Ever since people installed Microsoft's April cumulative update for Windows 11 24H2 (KB5055523), many have been greeted by a blue screen showing error code 0x18B and the message SECURE_KERNEL_ERROR. What started as a few scattered reports after March's KB5053656 and KB5053598 patches quickly became a widespread frustration once the April release went live. Some PCs reboot every minute or two, while others refuse to start up at all. Microsoft has acknowledged the problem in an updated support notice and is rolling out a Known Issue Rollback (KIR) to strip out the offending code. Home users should see the fix applied automatically within 24 hours, though you can speed things along by signing back in after a crash, opening Settings > Update & Security, and checking for updates up to five times. The rollback won't appear in your update history, but it will install quietly in the background.

IT teams don't need to wait, either. Administrators can push the KIR patch via Group Policy, and full instructions are available on Microsoft's support site. While the company hasn't detailed exactly what triggers the SECURE_KERNEL_ERROR or how often it occurs, a permanent correction is set to arrive in a future monthly update. In addition to the blue screens and reboot loops, some users have reported that Windows Hello facial recognition and fingerprint login stopped working. The quick workaround is removing and reconfiguring your biometric credentials. However, a complete repair is expected in May. After installing April's update, you may also notice a new "Inetpub" folder on your C: drive. This directory is the default home for Internet Information Services web files, and Microsoft confirms it was created on purpose to support optional web?hosting features. If you haven't enabled IIS, the folder will sit unused and doesn't pose any risk, so avoid deleting it to prevent potential errors if you choose to turn those services on later. In the meantime, keep Windows Updates checked for any new patches.
