A Reddit user recently fell victim to a sophisticated hardware scam after purchasing what was advertised as a DDR5 RAM kit on Amazon, only to discover it was actually older DDR4 RAM cleverly disguised with DDR5 heatsinks. The user, known as u/Leading-Growth-8361 on Reddit's r/pcmasterrace subreddit, reported that the heatsink casings on the two RAM modules felt loose. When attempting to install them in a PC build, the sticks wouldn't fit properly into the motherboard slots. Closer inspection revealed the key difference: DDR5 RAM has a notch (cutout) positioned centrally on the contact pins, while DDR4 has it offset. This confirmed the modules were DDR4. Upon removing the heatsinks, the user found generic or "unknown" DDR4 RAM underneath. The scam involved swapping the original DDR5 chips or modules and attaching the authentic-looking DDR5 heatsinks to cheaper DDR4 sticks. Notably, the purchase was directly from Amazon (sold and fulfilled by Amazon), not a third-party seller, suggesting the tampering occurred earlier in the supply chain. The user received a full refund from Amazon but now faces higher prices to buy genuine DDR5 RAM amid rising costs and demand.

NVIDIA has released the GeForce Game Ready 591.59 WHQL driver, a relatively small update that focuses more on fixes than on adding features. As usual, NVIDIA says the driver "optimizes the experience" in games using DLSS 4 and NVIDIA Reflex, but does not name any specific new titles. This suggests that the 591.59 WHQL driver is either a general tuning version or a maintenance release rather than a game-specific launch driver. The most notable change addresses a color bug introduced in the previous driver. Users running games or applications at non-native resolutions or aspect ratios could see washed-out or incorrect colors, this issue is now fixed. On the gaming side the driver resolves stability problems in Enshrouded on GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, fixes a broken HDR toggle in Assassin's Creed Valhalla when Smooth Motion is enabled, and corrects crash issues in Dying Light: The Beast that appeared after updating to driver version 591.44.

NVIDIA has also made a couple of general improvements that are worth mentioning. They've fixed a problem where display colors looked washed out after changing from native resolution, and they've solved an issue that could lead to black screens when RTX HDR was turned on with certain TVs. In general, GeForce 591.59 WHQL driver seems to be a maintenance release that aims to increase stability and correct known issues instead of adding new features. If you've been dealing with color problems or crashes in recent drivers, you'll want to update. However, if you haven't experienced these issues, you might not notice much difference in your everyday use.

Recent reports have claimed that Nvidia intends to reduce its production capacity for GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs in the first half of 2026. These cuts are reportedly due to shortages of memory, not just GDDR7, but all memory types.

30-40% of Nvidia’s GeForce GPU production could be axed. This implies that Nvidia cannot get enough GDDR7 memory to produce GPUs at its current rate. Alternatively, it implies that Nvidia expects significantly reduced GPU sales in 2026, possibly due to rising NAND and DRAM costs and their impact on PC prices.

Note that there is no mention of non-GeForce RTX PRO series GPUs. If GDDR7 memory supply is indeed limited, Nvidia may be allocating its limited memory stocks to its more profitable RTX PRO GPU lineup, sacrificing its GeForce lineup.

Benchlife has claimed that Nvidia plans to start its cuts by targeting its RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and RTX 5070 Ti. Targeting the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB makes sense, as this GPU has the same amount of memory as an RTX 5080, a much more expensive GPU. The same is true for the RTX 5070 Ti. It’s memory could also be used for more profitable RTX 5080 GPUs.

If this is true, Nvidia wants to allocate its memory to its most profitable products. This makes sense from a business perspective. However, this tactic will hit consumers hard
