Chromium-based Edge browser now available for Win7/8.x - tech
(hx) 06:19 PM CEST - Jun,20 2019 - Post a comment / read (1)
Microsoft first started offering public previews of its new Chromium-based Edge browser over two months ago. At the time, it was for AMD64 Windows 10 PCs only, but since then, it's expanded to x86 Windows 10 PCs, and to macOS. Today though, the firm announced that you can now test out the browser on older versions of Windows, including Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. It's only from the Canary channel for now, which means that you'll get daily updates, and things might break. The Dev channel is coming soon. The reason that it took so long is that Microsoft has to get the telemetry working, as it was already fairly easy to take a Windows 10 build and bring it to another OS. It's interesting that Microsoft is supporting any of its own apps on Windows 8, which hasn't been supported in a few years now. Windows 7 support is also ending pretty soon, in January 2020.

AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT / RX 5700 to Have Same Memory & ROP - tech
(hx) 04:59 PM CEST - Jun,13 2019 - Post a comment / read (2)
In a bid to bolster competitiveness of the $379 Radeon RX 5700 (non-XT) against its rival from the NVIDIA camp, the GeForce RTX 2060, AMD is leaving the memory configuration completely unchanged from the faster $449 Radeon RX 5700 XT. The RX 5700 will get 8 GB of GDDR6 memory across a 256-bit wide memory bus, with the same 14 Gbps memory speed as the RX 5700 XT. This works out to a memory bandwidth of 448 GB/s. In comparison, the $349 (launch price) RTX 2060 only has 6 GB of memory, across a 192-bit wide memory bus. With a memory speed of 14 Gbps, this setup achieves 336 GB/s. The other area where AMD is reinforcing the RX 5700 is its raster muscle. The RX 5700 has the same 64 ROPs as the RX 5700 XT. AMD carved this SKU out by disabling two workgroup processors (four RDNA compute units), reducing the stream processor count to 2,304. This also turns down the TMU count from 160 to 144. The GPU engine clock speeds are also reduced, with 1465 MHz base, 1625 MHz "gaming clocks," and 1725 MHz boost clocks; compared to 1605/1755/1905 MHz of the RX 5700 XT. The RX 5700 has a typical board power of 180W compared to the 224W of the RX 5700 XT. Custom design cards may even feature just one 8-pin PCIe power input, while some of the premium factory-overclocked designs could use 8-pin + 6-pin configurations.

Warnings of world-wide worm attacks are the real deal - tech
(hx) 10:23 AM CEST - Jun,06 2019 - Post a comment
For the past three weeks, security professionals have warned with increasing urgency that a recently patched Windows vulnerability has the potential to trigger attacks not seen since the WannaCry worm that paralyzed much of the world in 2017. A demonstration video circulating on the Internet is the latest evidence to prove those warnings are the real deal. It was posted Tuesday by Sean Dillon, a senior security researcher and RiskSense. A play-by-play helps to underscore the significance of the feat.
The video shows a module Dillon wrote for the Metasploit exploit framework remotely connecting to a Windows Server 2008 R2 computer that has yet to install a patch Microsoft released in mid May. At about 14 seconds, a Metasploit payload called Meterpreter uses the getuid command to prove that the connection has highly privileged System privileges. In the remaining six seconds, the hacker uses the open source Mimikatz application to obtain the cryptographic hashes of passwords belonging to other computers on the same network the hacked machine is connected to.

Microsoft Extends Variable Refresh Rate to Games that Lack Native Support - tech
(hx) 06:07 PM CEST - Jun,04 2019 - Post a comment / read (2)
Microsoft extended variable refresh-rate (VRR) to games that don't natively support it, through a new global setting under Graphics Settings. To access this setting, you must have the latest Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version 1903), a display that supports NVIDIA G-Sync, AMD FreeSync, or VESA Adaptive-Sync, and a graphics processor with a WDDM 2.6-compliant driver that supports these VRR technologies. For now, this setting only works with DirectX 11 games in exclusive-fullscreen mode. Microsoft clarified that this setting is not designed to override the VRR options presented by the control panels of your display driver provider (eg: NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Radeon Settings). The option is disabled by default, and isn't visible to users who don't meet both the hardware- and software-requirements of VRR.

NVIDIA Relases GeForce Hotfix 430.97 Driver - tech
(hx) 07:05 PM CEST - Jun,01 2019 - Post a comment
NVIDIA Friday released the GeForce Hotfix 430.97 driver. Hotfix drivers are released when NVIDIA needs to address a limited number of glaring issues with a recently released driver, in this case, the 430.86 WHQL and 430.64 WHQL. Released only for Windows 10, the drivers fix a game crash noticed in "Forza Horizon 4" when driving through tunnels. It also addresses a "Code 43" error noticed on machines powered by Intel "Sandy Bridge" processors when trying to install the WDDM 2.6-ready 430.64 WHQL drivers on Windows 10 May 2019 Update (1903).
GeForce Hotfix display driver version 430.97 is based on our latest Game Ready Driver 430.86.  This Hotfix driver addresses the following:

  • Forza Horizon 4: Game may crash when driving through tunnels
  • Code 43 error when installing driver 430.64 on Windows 10 May 2019 Update system with Intel Sandy Bridge CPU
  • Windows 10 May 2019 Update causes crashes/freezing issues - tech

It appears that the May 2019 Update for Windows 10 is causing some crashing/freezing issues on PC systems that are equipped with AMD’s Ryzen and Threadripper CPUs. According to reports, these freezing issues are due to compatibility issues between the update and RAID drivers. Going into more details, the May 2019 Update installation freezes on these PC systems with AMD’s aforementioned processors as there’s a compatibility issue between the RAID drivers and the update. Thankfully, a bypass/workaround has been discovered so we suggesting using it if you own an AMD Ryzen or Threadripper CPU, and want to update to the latest version of Windows 10. All you have to do is download and install the latest RAID driver from here, version 9.2.0.105, before applying/installing the May 2019 Update.

Microsoft describes its vision for a modern OS - tech
    (hx) 04:53 PM CEST - May,29 2019 - Post a comment / read (8)
Computex is being held this week in Taipei, and that means that there have been plenty of Windows 10 PCs announced. As we're nearing the end of the conference, Microsoft has published its usual blog post recapping the devices that its partners announced. But in the blog post, the firm also talked about its vision for a modern operating system. Microsoft said that for new, modern devices, we'll need a modern OS. The company outlined some ideas for the modern OS, never once mentioning Windows 10.
At Computex in Taipei, Microsoft executives Roanne Sones, corporate vice president of OS Platforms and Rodney Clark, vice president of IoT Sales, joined Nick Parker, corporate vice president of Consumer and Device Sales, in the keynote address to showcase Microsoft 365, Windows platform and Azure IoT technologies and services that device partners can use to deliver innovative modern PC experiences and build a new generation of connected devices and IoT solutions.

In addition, they provided perspective as to how intelligent edge ecosystem partners can fuel business transformation by working together to build edge to cloud IoT solutions.

This ecosystem requires an operating system that enables the foundational experiences customers expect from their devices, such as seamless updates, default security that protects users and the OS from malicious attacks, connectivity anywhere with 5G, LTE and Wi-Fi and performance that is consistent and reliable over time.
In another extensive blog post, Microsoft goes into even more detail about its modern OS, detailing several key areas it's focused on with building a modern OS:
    Seamless updates
    Secure by default
    Always connected
    Sustained performance
    Cloud connected
    AI
    Multi-sense
    Form factor agilty
Microsoft still isn't using the "Windows Core OS" name, referring to it only as "modern OS" for the time being, but the company has confirmed a few things we've been expecting to be part of Windows Core OS, including seamless updates, that should enable Windows Core OS devices to update in under a minute during a reboot. Microsoft also touts performance that doesn't degrade and form factor agility, likely referring to the new modern shell experiences that can adapt on the fly, and better security that protects users from attacks. It's an exciting time for Windows devices, and this is just the start. Things are only going to get more interesting as we enter into 2020.

AMD Ryzen 3000 CPUs launching July 7 with up to 12 cores - tech
    (hx) 11:40 PM CEST - May,28 2019 - Post a comment / read (2)
As the prophecy foretold AMD has announced Ryzen 3000 CPUs at Computex 2019. From July 7, 2019, gamers will be able to slot Zen 2 processing power into their gaming PCs – harnessing all the world’s first desktop 7nm x86 CPU has to offer and running at colossal PCIe 4.0 bandwidth thanks to the X570 platform. Under the hood sits AMD’s Zen 2 architecture. Each Ryzen AM4 package is a combination of either one or two 7nm processing chiplets paired with a single 14nm chiplet, resulting in an impressive power/performance ratio over its first and second generation predecessors. No doubt thanks somewhat to TSMC’s 7nm process node. Thanks to all that lithographic goodness, the octacore Ryzen 7 3800X is able to boost to a max clock speed of 4.5GHz from 3.9GHz base, and the 12-core Ryzen 9 chip up to a whopping 4.6GHz from 3.8GHz.

As for performance, AMD has increased IPC by a whopping 15% with Zen 2. It’s also doubled cache size and doubled floating point performance. So how does that shake out? Well, AMD’s touted its 3700X as over 30% faster than Intel’s i7 9700K in multithreaded Cinebench R20 benchmarking. Meanwhile, the Ryzen 7 3800X matches Intel’s i9 9900K in AMD’s own PUBG benchmark. In addition, the Ryzen 9 3900X outperforms Intel’s Core i9 9920X by 14% in single-threaded Cinebench R20 and 6% in multithreaded testing. And all that starting from $329 with the Ryzen 7 3700X. You’ll be able to get your hands on Ryzen 3000 chips from July 7 alongside X570 motherboards.
Microsoft announces the new Pro IntelliMouse - tech
    (hx) 02:32 PM CEST - May,28 2019 - Post a comment
Microsoft's IntelliMouse is something of a classic among PC mice, and in 2017 the company brought back the lineup with the Classic IntelliMouse. Now, though, it's getting a number of upgrades with the new Microsoft Pro IntelliMouse, which aims to be good for general use, but also even suitable for gaming. The new Pro IntelliMouse has a new tracking sensor, with a tracking speed of 400 inches per second and a report rate of 1,000 reports per second which can be customized through the Windows Mouse and Keyboard Center (MKC). The sensor is the PixArt PAW3389PRO-MS. In addition to the improvements to the sensor, Microsoft made many tweaks to the design, such as the shadow color gradient that's meant to replicate the same look that's common in many Xbox Accessories. Microsoft also improved the key actuation, added a textured finish, and even a braided cable to improve the longevity of the hardware. The mouse has five buttons, three of which are customizable with MKC, and you can also change the color of the taillight on the mouse, something which tends to be popular in gaming setups. Otherwise, the new Pro IntelliMouse retains the familiar aspects of previous iterations, with its ergonomic design and the exclusively wired connection, which should at least be more reliable than a wireless one. The new Pro IntelliMouse is already available through the Microsoft Store in the United States and Canada, and it costs $59.99. It comes in either Light Shadow or Dark Shadow color options. Those in other markets, including Europe, will need to wait until July to get their hands on one.

Microsoft Admits Updates Are Freezing Windows 10 Computers - tech
    (hx) 12:48 AM CEST - May,20 2019 - Post a comment / read (7)
Last month I reported how the April Windows 10 "Patch Tuesday" updates were freezing some computers during the update process itself and preventing others from rebooting afterwards. Now it appears that the latest operating system updates are once again preventing Windows 10 computers from rebooting properly. The previous issue only involved users running certain antivirus solutions, but this time it's anyone. Or at least anyone who wants to restore their computer back to a point before the latest Windows 10 update was installed. Which is, let's face it, a pretty common scenario considering the problematical nature of the update process. Bleeping Computer was first to spot that Microsoft had updated a support document regarding system restore reboot problems. As long as you have system protection turned on in Windows 10 and have created a system restore point before applying the latest update, then you are at risk of being frozen out of your computer. Simple as. Microsoft confirms that under those circumstances the computer may experience "a Stop error (0xc000021a)" and when you restart the device "the system cannot return to the Windows desktop." In other words, your computer is borked in a failed reboot scenario caused by the Windows 10 update that is meant to protect your system from potential harm.

How do you fix it? Restart the computer and enter the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) which should happen automatically after two consecutive failed attempts to start Windows 10. From the WinRE screen, select "Troubleshoot|Advanced options|More recovery options|Startup settings" and then the "Restart now" option. A number of startup settings will be available and you need to ensure you have selected "Disable driver signature enforcement." Microsoft advises that the F7 key may need to be employed in order to select this setting. The startup process will now proceed and system restore should resume and complete as intended.

Intel Tried to Bribe Dutch University to Suppress Knowledge of MDS Vulnerability - tech
    (hx) 03:30 PM CEST - May,16 2019 - Post a comment / read (3)
Cybersecurity researchers at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, also known as VU Amsterdam, allege that Intel tried to bribe them to suppress knowledge of the latest processor security vulnerability RIDL (rouge in-flight data load), which the company made public on May 14. Dutch publication Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant reports that Intel offered to pay the researchers a USD $40,000 "reward" to allegedly get them to downplay the severity of the vulnerability, and backed their offer with an additional $80,000. The team politely refused both offers. Intel's security vulnerability bounty program is shrouded in CYA agreements designed to minimize Intel's losses from the discovery of a new vulnerability. Under its terms, once a discoverer accepts the bounty reward, they enter into a NDA (non-disclosure agreement) with Intel, to not disclose their findings or communicate in the regard with any other person or entity than with certain authorized people at Intel. With public knowledge withheld, Intel can work on mitigation and patches against the vulnerability. Intel argues that information of vulnerabilities becoming public before it's had a chance to address them would give the bad guys time to design and spread malware that exploits the vulnerability. This is an argument the people at VU weren't willing to buy, and thus Intel is forced to disclose RIDL even as microcode updates, software updates, and patched hardware are only beginning to come out.

Remote Code Execution security vulnerability affecting Windows 7 - tech
    (hx) 06:08 PM CEST - May,15 2019 - Post a comment / read (3)
Microsoft is warning that the Internet could see another exploit with the magnitude of the WannaCry attack that shut down computers all over the world two years ago unless people patch a high-severity vulnerability. The software maker took the unusual step of backporting the just-released patch for Windows 2003 and XP, which haven't been supported in four and five years, respectively. "This vulnerability is pre-authentication and requires no user interaction," Simon Pope, director of incident response at the Microsoft Security Response Center, wrote in a published post that coincided with the company's May Update Tuesday release. "In other words, the vulnerability is wormable, meaning that any future malware that exploits this vulnerability could propagate from vulnerable computer to vulnerable computer in a similar way as the WannaCry malware spread across the globe in 2017. While we have observed no exploitation of this vulnerability, it is highly likely that malicious actors will write an exploit for this vulnerability and incorporate it into their malware."

As if a self-replicating, code-execution vulnerability wasn't serious enough, CVE-2017-0708 (as the flaw in Windows Remote Desktop Services is indexed) requires low complexity to exploit. Microsoft's Common Vulnerability Scoring System Calculator scores that complexity as 3.9 out of 10. (To be clear, the WannaCry developers had potent exploit code written by, and later stolen from, the National Security Agency, to exploit the wormable CVE-2017-0144 and CVE-2017-0145 flaws, which had exploit complexities rated as "high.") Ultimately, though, developing reliable exploit code for this latest Windows vulnerability will require relatively little work.

Bartholomew said network firewalls and other defenses that block the RDP service would effectively stop the attack from happening. But as the world learned during the WannaCry attacks, those measures often fail to contain damage that can collectively cost billions of dollars. Independent researcher Kevin Beaumont, citing queries on the Shodan search engine of Internet-connected computers, said here that about 3 million RDP endpoints are directly exposed.

Besides Windows 2003 and XP, CVE-2019-0708 also affects Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008. In a testament to Microsoft's steadily improving security, later versions of Windows aren't at risk.

Microsoft: The open source company - tech
    (hx) 10:24 PM CEST - May,11 2019 - Post a comment
The news from Microsoft's Build developer conference that surprised me most was that Microsoft will ship a genuine Linux kernel—GPLed, with all patches published—with Windows. That announcement was made with the announcement of Windows Terminal, a new front-end for command-line programs on Windows that will, among other things, support tabs. Microsoft's increased involvement with open source software isn't new, as projects such as Visual Studio Code and the .NET runtime have operated as open source, community-driven projects. But this week's announcements felt a bit different.
The Linux kernel will be powering Microsoft's second generation Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). The first generation WSL contains a partial re-implementation of the Linux kernel API that uses the Windows NT kernel to perform its functionality. In choosing this approach, Microsoft avoided using any actual Linux code, and hence the company avoided the GPL license with its "viral" stipulations that would have arguably forced Microsoft to open source WSL and perhaps even parts of Windows itself.

No less significant is the Windows Terminal project. Many Windows users will know that Windows' command-line programs depend on a process named conhost.exe that's responsible for drawing the command-line windows. As part of Windows Terminal, Microsoft has published the source to conhost.exe. This is an important (albeit uninteresting) part of Windows itself, and Microsoft has published it using the permissive MIT license. This is, I think, unprecedented. While Microsoft has open sourced Windows utilities such as Calculator, this represents the first time that the company has published core Windows code—and with an open source license to boot.

The Windows Terminal project is similarly permissively licensed. While it's branded an early alpha release at present, once it stabilizes and has a solid feature set, it's likely to be integrated into Windows itself and to ship as a standard Windows component. Just as with the publishing of conhost.exe, this too represents something of a first: a (new) core Windows component that's developed as open source.

Microsoft has changed. It's not the company it once was. Open source is no longer the enemy—it's now something that has a role across the entire company. And open source is not just for discrete, standalone applications; it's now a viable building block for core Windows features.

    Apollo 11 HoloLens 2 Demo - tech

Live demos can be a great tool - a chance to show a product's promise and abilities in a convincing way. But they can also go quite wrong, which Microsoft found out the hard way during its annual Build developer conference when a HoloLens demo about Apollo 11 never got off the ground:

Mozilla releases Firefox 66.0.4 which re-enables user extensions - tech
    (hx) 02:45 PM CEST - May,06 2019 - Post a comment / read (1)
Mozilla has finally released Firefox 66.0.4 which addresses a certificate issue which caused many Firefox users’ extensions to become disabled. The hiccup occurred on Friday, May 3rd and, as a result, many users flocked to forums such as Reddit to see just what was going on. For users on desktop, Mozilla was fairly quick to push a temporary fix via the Studies programme but this didn’t extend to the ESR or Android versions of the browser.
A Firefox release has been pushed — version 66.0.4 on Desktop and Android, and version 60.6.2 for ESR. This release repairs the certificate chain to re-enable web extensions, themes, search engines, and language packs that had been disabled. There are remaining issues that we are actively working to resolve, but we wanted to get this fix out before Monday to lessen the impact of disabled add-ons before the start of the week

While the new update fixes a ton of issues that users will have faced, it doesn’t solve them all. Some users may notice the following issues:

    • A small number of add-ons are listed as unsupported or may not appear in about:addons, the data isn’t lost and users should be able to re-install the add-ons and recover the data.
    • Add-ons that use container functionality may have lost site data or custom configurations and may need to be set up again.
    • Themes may not have automatically been re-enabled but users can re-enable them manually in about:addons.
    • Home page and search settings that were customised by an add-on may have been reset to default, requiring users to customise the settings again.

It’s not clear whether Mozilla plans to fix these issues in another point release or just wait for the next major release of the browser which is slated for May 14.

Firefox is having trust issues with add-ons - tech
    (hx) 09:34 PM CEST - May,04 2019 - Post a comment / read (19)
According to an announcement on Mozilla Discourse, a certificate used to sign Firefox add-ons expired some hours ago and is causing new add-ons to fail to install and existing add-ons to stop working. As a result, users have reported on Reddit that they have been left without functioning add-ons such as content blockers, password managers, and download managers.

Mozilla is now rolling out a fix for the issue affecting add-ons to release, beta, and nightly users on desktop and should automatically be applied to Firefox in the next few hours. However, it relies upon remaining opted into "Studies" found in the Firefox preferences under Privacy & Security > FireFox Data Collection and Use and making sure that Allow Firefox to install and run studies is enabled in addition to Allow Firefox to send technical and interaction data to Mozilla. These options can be disabled after the fix has been applied.

In the meantime, Mozilla is still working on a general fix that does not rely on the above configuration.

Windows 7 users won't let go of the aging OS - tech
    (hx) 03:26 PM CEST - May,03 2019 - Post a comment / read (29)
Analytics company NetMarketShare’s latest figures show that while Windows 10’s market share continues to climb, it is doing so at a slower pace. It went from 43.62 percent in March to 44.10 percent in April. And while Windows 7 declined, it did so by just 0.09 percent—from 36.52 percent to 36.43 percent. It was only in December that Windows 10 finally surpassed Windows 7 to become the most popular version of the operating system. Surprisingly, the older OS experienced slight growth in February, but has been falling since then, though not as quickly as Microsoft wants. Windows 7 will no longer receive extended security updates on January 14, 2020. After this point, the only users to receive them will be business and education customers willing to pay the high prices. In an attempt to get more people to migrate to Windows 10, Microsoft started sending out courtesy reminders last month. These contain a link to pages that offer advice on how to prepare for Windows 7's last days and encourage people to upgrade to Windows 10 or buy a new PC.

Backblaze Releases Hard Drive Stats for Q1 2019 - tech
    (hx) 12:01 AM CEST - May,02 2019 - Post a comment / read (1)
At the end of Q1 2019, Backblaze was using 104,325 hard drives to store data. For our evaluation we remove from consideration those drives that were used for testing purposes and those drive models for which we did not have at least 45 drives (see why below). This leaves us with 104,130 hard drives. The table below covers what happened in Q1 2019. If a drive model has a failure rate of 0%, it means there were no drive failures of that model during Q1 2019. The two drives listed with zero failures in Q1 were the 4 TB and 5 TB Toshiba models. Neither has a large enough number of drive days to be statistically significant, but in the case of the 5 TB model, you have to go back to Q2 2016 to find the last drive failure we had of that model.

Windows 10 May 2019 Update Blocks Prior To Launch - tech
    (hx) 12:34 PM CEST - May,01 2019 - Post a comment
Microsoft is likely just days away from publicly launching the next major release for Windows 10: Version 1903, aka, the Windows 10 May 2019 Update. Although Microsoft has been testing the May 2019 Update for months internally and externally – via the Windows Insider program – the company doesn’t want a repeat of what happened with the disastrous Windows 10 October 2018 Update. With that in mind, the company pushed the update out to the Release Preview ring much earlier than usual so that it could catch any last-minute bugs before going to a full-scale public release. The next step that the company has taken it to implement upgrade blocks for specific configurations that are known to have issues with the Windows 10 May 2019 Update. By issuing these blocks, customers who otherwise would have been pushed the update will be spared the headaches of dealing with sometimes crippling bugs. Once Microsoft has pushed out fixes for these particular problems, the blocks will be lifted.
With this in mind, Microsoft has posted the following list of upgrade blocks that will be in place when the Windows 10 May 2019 hits the public next month:

        * If you have an external USB device or SD memory card is attached to your PC, you will be blocked from updating to the May 2019 Update. If you remove any external USB devices and/or SD memory cards, the update should proceed normally. This issue will be resolved in a future servicing update for Windows 10.
        * If you have older versions of anti-cheat software used with games installed on your PC, you will be blocked from updating to the May 2019 Update. Some older versions of anti-cheat software may cause PCs to experience crashes after updating to the May 2019 Update. This block is specific to older versions of anti-cheat software. We are working with partners on getting their software updated with a fix, and most games have released patches to prevent PCs from experiencing this issue. To minimize the chance of hitting this block, please make sure you are running the latest version of your games before attempting to update the operating system.
        * If you have redirected any Known Folders (for example: Desktop, Documents, Pictures), an empty folder with that same name is created in your %userprofile% directory when you update. Your Known Folders are redirected if you chose to back up your content to OneDrive using the OneDrive wizard, or if you chose to keep your content backed up during the Windows Out-of-box-Experience (OOBE). You may have also redirected your Known Folders manually through the Properties Dialog in File Explorer. ?This issue does not cause any user files to be deleted and a fix is in progress.

NVIDIA Releases GeForce 430.53 Hotfix Driver - tech
    (hx) 05:15 PM CEST - Apr,30 2019 - Post a comment
NVIDIA today introduced their latest hotfix driver. Driver number 430.53 addresses reported issues of high CPU utilization (due to NVDisplay.Container.exe) on NVIDIA's previous 430.39 WHQL driver, which added support for their latest GTX 1650 graphics card as well as Windows' 1903 release. A number of fixes have also been introduced by this driver version. Namely, flickering observed when 3DMark Time Spy is launched; BeamNG application crash on games launch; SLI freezes in Shadow of the Tomb Raider; and monitor flickering on the desktop when videos are being played on a secondary monitor.
GeForce Hotfix display driver version 430.53 is based on our latest Game Ready Driver 430.39.  This Hotfix driver addresses the following:

  • Fixes higher CPU usage by NVDisplay.Container.exe introduced in 430.39 driver
  • 3DMark Time Spy: Flickering observed when benchmark is launched
  • BeamNG: Application crashes when game is launched
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Freezes when launched in SLI mode
  • Desktop flickers when videos are played back on a secondary monitor

GeForce 430.39 driver causes High CPU usage - tech
    (hx) 10:27 PM CEST - Apr,29 2019 - Post a comment / read (1)
A few days ago, NVIDIA released a brand new driver for its graphics cards. The GeForce 430.39 driver was optimized for Mortal Kombat 11, Anthem and Strange Brigade, however, it appears that it is also plagued by a really weird bug. According to numerous reports, this latest driver caused high CPU usage on a variety of PC system configurations. However, and contrary to other similar reports, NVIDIA has acknowledged this issue and stated that it is currently working on a fix.
Thank you. We have been able to reproduce the bug consistently now and are currently testing a fix.

Enable Google Chrome 74 Dark Mode In Windows 10 - tech
    (hx) 03:24 PM CEST - Apr,25 2019 - Post a comment / read (4)
Google has now released Chrome 74 for Windows, Mac, Linux, Chrome OS, and Android users. The biggest thing in any of those releases is that Dark Mode has now landed for Windows users. If you want to turn on Dark Mode, you have to first change Windows 10 to use "dark" setting via the personalization tab, and then Chrome will automatically switch to Dark Mode with the OS. Next, you will need to enable Dark Mode in Chrome using the following steps:

Go to the shortcut icon that you use to that start Google Chrome.
Right-click the shortcut icon and click Properties.
Add --force-dark-mode at the end of the Target field.
    Click Apply, then OK.
    Start Google Chrome.

The other changes in Chrome 74 are for web developers, and some things have been removed in this version. One of the removed features is the deprecation of file downloads initiated from sandbox iframes. That was removed because it was a common method for malware distribution. Google also removed the ability of a webpage to open a new tab when the current page is being closed. Data Saver mode was replaced by Lite Mode on Android; that mode is only on Chrome for Android. Google's page offering all the details on changes for Chrome 74 can be found here.
