The rumor mill is back with new alleged power specifications for NVIDIA’s upcoming Ada-based GPUs, adding further potential credence of GeForce RTX 40 Series graphics cards being some of the most power hungry yet. Leaker kopite7kimi has claimed in a recent tweet that the AD102 GPU, which is expected to power the next generation of flagships such as the GeForce RTX 4090, will feature a maximum power limit of 800 watts, while some of the lesser Ada GPUs, including the AD103 and AD104, are said to feature power limits of 450 and 400 watts, respectively. GeForce RTX 40 Series mobile GPUs will supposedly feature a power limit of up to 175 watts. NVIDIA’s current gaming flagship GPU, the GA102, features a 450-watt maximum TDP.

USB-C to become charging standard for most electronics in EU by 2024 - tech
(hx) 04:02 PM CEST - Jun,07 2022 - Post a comment / read (4)
As expected, the result of the meeting confirmed that a USB-C charging port will be a legal requirement for all smartphones sold within the 27 countries of the European Union by 2024. Technically, the Directive still has to be voted on by the European Parliament, and enacted by the European Council, but those stages are expected to be formalities.
By autumn 2024, USB Type-C will become the common charging port for all mobile phones, tablets and cameras in the EU, Parliament and Council negotiators agreed today.

The provisional agreement on the amended Radio Equipment Directive, establishes a single charging solution for certain electronic devices. This law is a part of a broader EU effort to make products in the EU more sustainable, to reduce electronic waste, and make consumers’ lives easier.

Under the new rules, consumers will no longer need a different charging device and cable every time they purchase a new device, and can use one single charger for all of their small and medium-sized portable electronic devices. Mobile phones, tablets, e-readers, earbuds, digital cameras, headphones and headsets, handheld videogame consoles and portable speakers that are rechargeable via a wired cable will have to be equipped with a USB Type-C port, regardless of their manufacturer. Laptops will also have to be adapted to the requirements by 40 months after the entry into force.

The charging speed is also harmonised for devices that support fast charging, allowing users to charge their devices at the same speed with any compatible charger.
This might have posed a problem for Apple, which has maintained a Lightning port for iPhones despite transitioning both Macs and iPads to USB-C – but recent reports indicate that the company actually plans to make the change a year ahead of the deadline. Ming-Chi Kuo pointed to supply-chain evidence for Apple switching from Lightning to USB-C next year, which would mean the first USB-C iPhone would be the iPhone 15.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 to Consume More Power than GeForce RTX 3070 (220 W) - tech
(d@rkfu) 08:11 PM CEST - Jun,05 2022 - Post a comment / read (6)
News broke yesterday of NVIDIA’s alleged launch schedule for its upcoming GeForce RTX 40 Series, including a supposed CES 2023 unveiling date for a newly mentioned (but predictable) GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card. Popular leaker @kopite7kimi has now taken to Twitter to share a little insight on the lower mid-range GPU, claiming that it will consume more power than the Ampere-based GeForce RTX 3070. If true, this would mean that the GeForce RTX 4060 will feature a TDP greater than 220 watts, which is what NVIDIA officially lists for the graphics card power of its GeForce RTX 3070. NVIDIA fans who have been following the company’s gaming products closely may not be too surprised, however, as members of the GeForce X60 series have proven to be more and more power hungry over the past few generations.
  • GeForce RTX 4060: 220W+
  • GeForce RTX 3060: 170W
  • GeForce RTX 2060: 160W
  • GeForce GTX 1060: 120W
  • GeForce GTX 960: 120W
  • GeForce GTX 760: 170W

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Graphics Card - December 2022 Launch
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Graphics Card - January CES 2023 Unveil
The GeForce RTX 4090 will be the first to launch, followed by its siblings, the RTX 4080 and the RTX 4070. If you recall the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series launch, you will remember that the green team also announced the trio of its Ampere cards, the RTX 3090, RTX 3080, and RTX 3070 the same day however, the launches took place a few weeks apart from each other. The first graphics card within the RTX 30 series wasn't available in retail until a month later (1st September RTX 30 Unveil, 24th September RTX 3080 Retail launch).

The GeForce RTX 3090 was launched for retail availability by the end of September so an October launch for the RTX 4090 will mark almost 24 months since the previous graphics card.

The trio of GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards is expected to utilize different Ada Lovelace GPU designs with the RTX 4090 using the top AD102 SKU, the RTX 4080 using the AD103 SKU while the RTX 4070 is expected to feature the AD104 GPU SKU

NVIDIA Delays Launch of GeForce GTX 1630 - tech
(hx) 10:11 PM CEST - May,30 2022 - Post a comment
NVIDIA has delayed the launch for its first x30 model in the GTX series, the GeForce GTX 1630. A new embargo sheet shared by VideoCardz can confirm that the budget-oriented option for gamers will now be available beginning on June 15, around two weeks after its previously reported premiere date of May 31. Marketing for the GeForce GTX 1630 is also expected to commence on that same date in June. Pricing for this graphics cards is yet to come, but its performance has been speculated to be slower than the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti due to reduced memory bandwidth.
As we have already confirmed, GTX 1630 features TU117-150 GPU with reduced CUDA core count to 512. This is even fewer than GTX 1650 (896 cores). Furthermore, the card will have reduced memory bus to 64-bit. This, as we have just learned, is a significant bottleneck for this card.

Despite featuring the same 4 GB GDDR6 memory clocked at 12 Gbps, the bandwidth has been reduced to 96 GB/s, so lower than 6 year old “Pascal” GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, which this model is supposedly replacing (GTX 1050 Ti is now going EOL). The GTX 1650 GDDR6 alone is at least 72% faster, as long as 3DMark synthetic tests are considered.

NVIDIA Restores Cryptocurrency Mining Limiter - tech
(hx) 12:13 PM CEST - May,26 2022 - Post a comment
NVIDIA users who are using their GeForce RTX 30 Series graphics cards specifically for mining purposes may want to stay away from the latest driver. A new video shared by Portuguese YouTuber Juliano Caju has revealed that the GeForce Game Ready 512.95 WHQL driver, which green team released yesterday with support for Hitman 3’s new Year 2 update and the Early Access launch of My Time At Sandrock, restores the full power of the Lite Hash Rate cryptocurrency limiter, something that miners could sidestep thanks to recent developments that include NiceHash’s unlocker. Users who install the new GeForce Game Ready 512.95 WHQL driver will encounter a return to clamped hash rates, which could range from 50% to 70% of the GPU’s real potential. The good news is that NVIDIA’s LHR restoration only applies to its latest driver; users can simply roll back to the previous 512.77 driver to avoid reduced hash rates.

Lite Hash Rate was NVIDIA’s desperate attempt to discourage miners from buying their cards. Unfortunately, the cryptomining community was quick to crack LHR and 70% hashrate unlock came fairly quickly after the first LHR cards were released. However, the full LHR unlock has been available for only two weeks now. The 512.95 mining lock has been confirmed by a YouTuber Juliano Caju. His RTX 3060 card is limited to 25 MH/s ETH hashrate with ‘nbminer’, which is a lot slower than 46 MH/s on the unlocked driver.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Rumored to Feature 24 GB of 21 Gbps GDDR6X Memory - tech
    (hx) 09:44 PM CEST - May,11 2022 - Post a comment / read (4)
NVIDIA fans who have been speculating that green team’s next flagship gaming graphics card would feature a similar memory configuration as the current champion might be correct after all. Habitual leaker kopite7kimi has returned with some new rumors regarding the upcoming Lovelace-based GeForce RTX 40 Series, and they suggest that the GeForce RTX 4090 will feature 24 GB of 21 Gbps GDDR6X memory, just like the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. The GeForce RTX 4080 and GeForce RTX 4070 will also supposedly feature 16 GB and 12 GB of VRAM, respectively. The GeForce RTX 4090 reportedly rocks the AD102 die and is likely the flagship silicon for Nvidia’s next-generation lineup. The graphics card may arrive with 24GB of GDDR6X memory at 21 Gbps. That’s the same recipe Nvidia used for the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. Therefore, Nvidia may not push the memory limit for this generation, seemingly maxing out at 24GB as the chipmaker did on Ampere.

NFT fans lose millions in video game real estate sales - tech
    (hx) 09:07 AM CEST - May,08 2022 - Post a comment / read (7)
The creator of the most recognizable NFTs available is again in the news for the wrong reasons. Bored Ape Yacht Club creator Yuga Labs recently made its Otherdeed collection available for purchase. It advertised the NFTs as a way to provide users with the ability to obtain land in its upcoming crypto-based MMORPG. Unfortunately, many fans instead walked away with nothing but disappointment, high transaction fees, and stolen funds. Yuga Labs sold Otherdeed NFTs via Opensea. The collection sold (or at least tried to sell) tokens to claim real estate and resources in Yuga's upcoming metaverse game, Otherside. The NFT drop netted approximately $310 million in just a few short hours. Unfortunately for Yuga Labs, the sale generated far more traffic than expected on the Ethereum blockchain. This increase in traffic resulted in Ethereum gas fees of up to $14,000 for some users and failed transactions for others. Gas fees are charges passed on to users to compensate for the computing energy of processing Ethereum transactions. To make matters worse, some who experienced failed purchases were still charged for the energy costs. According to Crypto Briefing, users paid $165 million in gas fees during the sale due to Otherside's poorly developed smart contract code.

The attack resulted in millions of dollars in NFTs being stolen and sent to scammer's wallets. ZachXBT, a self-proclaimed crypto "rug pull" (scam) survivor and on-chain transaction investigator, has identified several fraudulent sites and wallet addresses, one of which appears to have earned more than $5 million from unsuspecting users.
SEC Fines Nvidia $5.5 Million for Insufficient Crypto Disclosures - tech
    (hx) 09:04 AM CEST - May,08 2022 - Post a comment / read (2)
The SEC issued a $5.5 million fine to Nvidia after determining it failed to declare critical sales data in its 2017-2018 revenue reports. The slap-on-the-wrist penalty was accompanied by a formal statement that Nvidia did not disclose cryptomining as a significant source of its revenue growth during the period in question, thereby depriving potential investors of crucial information. The Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) May 6 press release cited Nvidia for "Inadequate Disclosures about Impact of Cryptomining." The SEC alleges that Nvidia did not report their increased crypto-based sales as required by Form 10-Q, instead attributing the increase to gaming-related growth. The omitted sales information and fluctuations left investors with an incomplete picture of the company's performance, which is key to analyzing business risk and investment potential. Nvidia did not confirm or deny the allegations of improper disclosure and agreed to a cease-and-desist order accompanied by a $5.5 million penalty.
