NVIDIA Releases GeForce 516.94 Game Ready Drivers - tech
(hx) 11:53 PM CEST - Aug,09 2022 - Post a comment
NVIDIA today released the GeForce 516.94 WHQL drivers. These come game-ready for "Spider-Man Remastered," which includes support for DLSS, DLAA, HBAO+, and ray tracing effects. Optimization is also added for "Madden NFL 23" and "Super People." The drivers also add G-SYNC compatibility for about 18 new monitor models; GeForce Experience optimal settings for 13 new games; and fixes a handful issues.

These include game stability with "Apex Legends," a performance improvement for Red Dead Redemption 2 with DLSS enabled; a game freezing bug with "Overwatch," brightness settings not working with certain MSI Raider notebook models; switching DLSS presets causing artifacts with "Chivalry 2," an application crash at startup with "Dungeons 3," random game freezes with "Destiny 2," artifacts with "Prepar3D," a stutter noticed in the Xbox app within Windows; and audio drop-outs noticed on NVIDIA "Ampere" GPUs connected to an HDMI 2.1 AV receiver when playing back content with Dolby Atmos.

NVIDIA has also shared a synopsis for the game and why Spider-Man fans might want to play the game on GeForce hardware:

It's Finally Here! AMD's Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX, Benchmarks, Power & Cooling - tech
(hx) 09:23 PM CEST - Aug,08 2022 - Post a comment / read (2)
The Threadripper Pro chips can handle pretty much anything you throw at them, including gaming. In fact, the 5975WX ties the Ryzen 9 5900X in our cumulative measure of 1080p gaming performance, an incredible feat considering that the 5900X is the fastest standard AMD gaming chip. The 5995WX is also surprisingly competitive in gaming, only falling a few percentage points behind the 5975WX. It's also 43% faster than the prior-gen 3995X. Impressive gaming results all around.

The Threadripper Pro 5995WX and 5975WX deliver class-leading threaded horsepower in multi-threaded workloads, being 13 to 15% faster in threaded work than the prior-gen models. Both Threadripper Pro chips also notch a roughly 17% improvement in single-threaded work. Also, be sure to check out the extra SPEC and Adobe benchmarks further above.

There isn't too much more to chew over in the benchmarks. AMD doesn't have a clear competitor — its chips are generally faster, cheaper, and more power efficient than competing Intel chips nearly across the board. Yes, the 'cheaper' statement applies to the Threadripper Pro 5995WX, too, even though it has a workstation-market-high price tag of $6,499 — you'd have to build a more expensive dual-socket Xeon system to match a single 5995WX.

13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900K Hits 5.8 GHz - tech
(hx) 12:37 PM CEST - Aug,07 2022 - Post a comment / read (1)
More benchmarks for the 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900K processor have surfaced, teasing what the company’s flagship Raptor Lake desktop CPU will probably be capable of. Per a new listing spotted on Geekbench 5, Intel’s 13th Gen Core i9-13900K processor can apparently achieve a single-core score of 2,314 and multi-core score of 26,464 in that particular test, both of which are exciting numbers. This is purportedly a retail version of the chip, and what’s also interesting is the frequency that’s listed, which alludes to clock speeds of as high as 5.8 GHz. Comparison charts shared by Wccftech have indicated what the publication is calling “insane amounts” of performance in the realm of multi-core, exceeding even the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X. Enthusiasts who decide to splurge on a 13th Gen Core i9-13900K processor can apparently expect a very fast chip that leverages 24 cores (8 P-Cores and 16 E-Cores) and comes equipped with 68 MB of cache. The scores were achieved with an ASRock Z690 Taichi motherboard. Intel is expected to launch its first 13th Gen Core desktop processors in October alongside its Z790 platform. AMD’s Ryzen 7000 Series, on the other hand, should be out earlier in September.
Coming straight to the performance figures, the Intel Core i9-13900K Raptor Lake CPU at 5.8 GHz offers insane amounts of multi-core CPU performance with up to 47% increase over the 12900K and a 55% uplift versus the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X. The chip even outperforms the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X which offers 64 Zen 2 cores. In single-threaded tests, the chip offers a 14% increase over the 12900K and a massive 30% uplift over the Ryzen 9 5950X.

Windows 11 Update Looks to Improve - tech
(hx) 01:53 PM CEST - Aug,06 2022 - Post a comment / read (3)
Ever since the release of Windows 11 a little under a year ago, however, a known issue has potentially been causing the operating systems gaming performance to not be as good as it should’ve been. The Windows 11 Shell Infrastructure issue has plagued gaming laptops and PCs for a while now, and the imminent KB5016700 update should show it the door. Windows Insider users will be among the first to try out the fix, followed by a wider stable rollout within the next couple of months. It’s hard to decide whether Microsoft deserves praise for this particular performance fix, as it’s a bit like thanking the bull for glueing together cups in a China shop. Nevertheless, the patch is certainly welcome, especially if you’re trying to boost fps on your Windows 11 rig.

With the fix currently part of the latest Windows Insider test builds, it is expected to form a full commercial release as part of the major Windows 11 22H2 update scheduled for some point in late September. As some of you may be aware, Windows 11 has transitioned to one major update per year when compared to the two predominantly seen during the lifespan of Windows 10 so expect 22H2 to bring a lot of general performance improvement and, overall, enhanced stability features.

Even if, according to some sources, the update will also mark the death of the old-school "Control Panel" :-((( that many older Windows users will be exceptionally familiar with! What do you think though? Have yo updated to Windows 11 yet? If not, do you plan to do so after the release of the 22H2 update? – Let me know in the comments!

Newegg is Desperate: Dumping GPUs with "JustGPU" - tech
(hx) 01:04 PM CEST - Aug,06 2022 - Post a comment
Newegg launched a new website - JustGPU - to try and dump its video card inventory. Unfortunately, the website is filled with misleading "benchmarks" that are all seemingly made up. In fact, Newegg goes so far as saying they're basically fake, but stops short of specifying to what extent. The website acts like any number of other affiliate spam websites with fake charts and "data" to try and lead a purchase based on some random attributes (like core count), but stops short of actually helping anyone. This is our look at JustGPU.

Completely Broken: Intel's Drivers Are Embarrassing (Arc GPUs) - tech
(hx) 11:54 PM CEST - Aug,01 2022 - Post a comment / read (1)
Intel's Arc GPU driver software is completely and utterly broken. Although the drivers work 'fine' for some gaming, as we showed in our initial review, the actual driver suite is a buggy and embarrassing mess that Intel should be afraid to even upload for use. Many of its features, like Intel Smooth Sync (which we tested here) and Intel Arc Control cause artifacting, flickering, crashes, or are just otherwise useless. In this video, we're reviewing the Intel Arc GPUs again, but this time for software rather than hardware. NVIDIA and AMD have nothing to be afraid of on this front (so far).

Intel Arc 30.0.101.3259 beta driver fixes Forza Horizon 5, Call of Duty bugs - tech
(hx) 10:43 AM CEST - Jul,30 2022 - Post a comment / read (1)
Intel has released a Windows DCH beta driver version 30.0.101.3259 for its Arc Alchemist discrete GPUs. The new driver brings multiple graphics corruption bug fixes and app crash fixes. For example, the driver resolves in popular Call of Duty titles, as well as in Forza Horizon 5, among others. You can find the full changelog below:

FIXED ISSUES:

  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege* (DX11) may experience texture corruption in the Emerald Plains map when ultra settings are enabled in game. A workaround is to select the Vulkan API in game settings.
  • Battlefield V* (DX11) may exhibit lighting corruption from certain sources such as spotlights or campfires.
  • F1 22* (DX12) may experience an application crash or hang when using ‘high’ or above quality settings with ambient occlusion set to ‘AMD FidelityFX CACAO’. A workaround is to disable or change this option within the games setting page.
  • Halo Infinite* (DX12) Lighting may appear blurry or over exposed in the multiplayer game menus.
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War* (DX12) may experience an application crash during gameplay.
  • Call of Duty: Warzone* (DX12) may exhibit flickering shadow corruption on character models in the menu.
  • Forza Horizon 5* (DX12) exhibits block corruption while drifting and MSAA x4 enabled.
  • Dying Light 2: Stay Human* (DX12) may exhibit lighting corruption on certain building surfaces.
  • Minecraft Bedrock* (DX11) may exhibit a black screen after the initial loading screen.

Lian Li Lancool III Case Review: Build Quality, Thermals - tech
(hx) 10:17 PM CEST - Jul,26 2022 - Post a comment / read (1)
This review looks at the Lian Li Lancool III PC case, a new high airflow design with a lot of mechanical gimmicks and features. The Lancool III sells for around $150 to $170, depending on whether it's the RGB, white, or black model, and competes most directly with alternatives like the Corsair 5000D, Fractal Torrent (and Compact), Phanteks P500A, and others in our benchmarks and tests. The Lancool III is one of the most mechanically complex cases we've ever reviewed and, overall, it executes well. There are some fit and finish issues that we'll talk about, and thermals are interesting, but overall, Lian Li is onto something with this one.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series Flagship Rumored to Feature 18,176 Cores, 48GB Memory,800-Watt TBP - tech
(hx) 09:22 AM CEST - Jul,26 2022 - Post a comment / read (5)
NVIDIA may be prepping an especially monstrous product for PC gamers. Tweets shared by leaker kopite7kimi today have alluded to “the beast,” a flagship Ada Lovelace product that will not only feature a new board design in the form of the PG137, but a particularly extreme set of specifications. These include 18,176 CUDA cores, 48 GB of GDDR6X memory running at 24 Gbps speeds, and an incredible TBP of 800 watts. This figure is nearly twice as high as the graphics card power that NVIDIA has listed for its current flagship, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, which sits at 450 watts. The GeForce RTX 3090 Ti features 10,752 CUDA cores and 24 GB of GDDR6X memory in comparison. Kopite7kimi didn’t have much more to share regarding NVIDIA’s “beast,” but the alleged power demands would suggest that the graphics card will require dual 16-pin power connectors. This product may also be one of the chief reasons as to why NVIDIA decided to develop a new triple-fan cooler design for its GeForce RTX 40 Series, which was teased by kopite7kimi back in June.
