After the new policies come into effect in December, standard residential users will start each month with 1 TB of "Priority Access" included in their $110 monthly fee for use during "peak hours," 7 am to 11 pm. Data used outside of those hours won't count toward the cap. If a subscriber uses more than 1 TB they'll be transitioned to "Basic Access," which is unlimited but potentially much slower than Priority Access when there's congestion. Users can opt-in to keep paying for Priority Access after reaching the cap at a rate of $0.25 per GB, or $250 per TB. Yes, as one Reddit user points out on the Starlink subreddit, buying two Starlink subscriptions will be $140 cheaper than buying 2 TB of data with the one subscription. Starlink says that about 10 percent of its customers use more than 1 TB some months, and it notified them by email that they will be affected by the change. A portion of them will be able to duck under the limit by waiting until after 11 pm to start downloading the next game they want to play or OS update. But some users are rightly upset that Starlink is changing its offerings now that they've already paid the $599 upfront fee for the requisite hardware.

Starlink also changed the expected speeds of its regular service without notifying its customers, albeit with a caveat: its customer support team is saying that no individuals will experience a sudden drop in speed, but rather, the new speeds reflect the future average speeds that it expects to achieve as it expands its user base. Current users say that they have been getting far lower speeds than Starlink advertises for months anyway. For regular users in most of the world, the expected speed used to be 50-200 Mbps down, and now it's 20-100 Mbps with Priority Access. Best Effort, RV, and Basic Access speeds are expected to be 5-50 Mbps. Businesses can purchase faster speeds and up to 3 TB of monthly Priority Access for static locations or 5 TB if they're on the move or ocean-based.

AMD today announced its new Radeon RX 7900 XT and 7900 XTX GPUs, unfortunately deviating from what was otherwise an incredibly clean announcement to rely on disingenuous marketing claims about “8K” “gaming” on the new RX 7900 XT & XTX GPUs. Other than steamrolling itself with its own misleading claims and statements, AMD did have some actual news to discuss. Primarily, it talked about the specs for the RX 7900 XT and XTX RDNA3 GPUs, and it also announced the 7900 XT & XTX release date as December 13th. The cards will have an MSRP of $1000 for the 7900 XTX and $900 for the 7900 XT.

I personally thought Nvidia did not want to release the 4800's yet as they have lots of 3000 series to still sell through. With changes in release date of AMD next gen and Intel's availability they can now stall and have more time to sell the 3000 series. Especially now before Xmas.

We're hugely disappointed in Skytech for not only dropping the ball, but also failing to recognize what went wrong when the answer was right in their faces. Skytech has done well in the past, but after this experience, it's clear that the company needs some more SOPs and quality control internally for their staff. This was a $5,000 computer after shipping, making it one of the most expensive we've ever reviewed, and it's arguably worse even than Alienware's R13 efforts. The Skytech Mark 9 had backwards fans, was tested with the fans installed that way at the production line, has a bent cooler, some bloatware, and other issues. XMP isn't even on and BIOS isn't configured right.

We're running in-depth tests on the NVIDIA RTX 4090 12VHPWR adapter cables (the 12-pin cables, sometimes called '16-pin' cables) to see how they thermally compare in different scenarios. A large part of this content is dedicated to testing the current prevailing theory that the solder is weak or that the cable is easy to snap out of place. We also tested a EVGA 3090 Ti 12-pin cable for perspective on thermals versus the modern RTX 4090 solutions. Video cards used include the ASUS RTX 4090 ROG Strix, Colorful RTX 4090 Neptune OC, and NVIDIA RTX 4090 Founders Edition. Cards were tested both stock and overclocked, mostly with FurMark (but also with other tests), and they were tested with 4 different cabling scenarios (stock/unmodified, snapped at both contact points and severed at the lines, snapped at the contact but not severed at the line for overall poor contact (but continuous supply down 12V to PSU), and mixtures of these.

AMD released the latest version of AMD Software Adrenalin drivers. Version 22.10.3 beta comes with optimization for 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II' (2022), and support for Radeon Boost with Variable Rate Shading in 'Dying Light 2.' In addition, it fixes a launch-time game crash with 'Elite Dangerous' on Radeon RX 6000-series GPUs; a persistent black screen when updating drivers or resetting graphics settings in Windows 11 version 22H2, and lower than normal performance with 'Gotham Knights' on AMD processor-powered machines with GPUs such as the RX 6950 XT.

Intel today released the latest Arc GPU Graphics Drivers. These are driver packages specifically for Intel Arc "Alchemist" discrete GPUs, and not the processor integrated graphics. Version 101.3793 beta, being released today, adds optimization for "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II" (2022), Resident Evil Village Gold Edition; and Victoria 3. Intel is fixing major bugs for its teething new discrete GPU family with each new driver release, and the same holds true for this one. Some Arc 7-series desktop GPUs exhibiting lower than expected video memory frequency values, has been fixed. Marvel's Spider-Man (DirectX 12) exhibiting scene corruption with AO disabled or set to HBAO+, has been fixed. Payday 2 (DirectX 9) exhibiting texture corruption when aiming down sights, has been fixed. Color corruption with Resident Evil Village (DirectX 12) in the Heisenberg Factory area, has been fixed. Intel Looking to Lay Off Meaningful Numbers of Staff, Can Some Products, After Profit Slump - tech

Intel's third quarter financials that the company released yesterday, weren't exactly what you'd call stellar. This has put Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger in a bind, as he's been forced to announce cost cuts of US$3 billion annually, starting 2023, but that it'll grow to somewhere between US$8 to 10 billion by 2025. Although Gelsinger didn't reveal the specifics of what these cost cuts will entail, he did mention quite a few potentials, according to The Register. Gelisinger stated that Intel "need to balance increased investment in areas like leadership in [technology development], product, and capacity [at new plants under construction] in Ohio and Germany, with the efficiency measures elsewhere as we drive to have best in class structures."

Intel's CFO David Zinsner, told Barron's that the company will be cutting a "meaningful number" of employees from Intel's payroll. Zisner went on to say that Intel will also perform "portfolio cuts, right-sizing our support organizations, more stringent cost controls in all aspects of our spending, and improved sales and marketing efficiency". It sounds like almost no-one is safe at Intel, especially as portofolio cuts mean that some product lines will either be sold off, or simply just canned in favour of more profitable products. Intel is also betting hard on its IDM 2.0 strategy, where the company is decoupling its hardware and software design teams from its foundry business. Time will tell if this helps restart Intel as a business, but Gelsinger seems to believe that the changes he's implementing at Intel will help turn things around.

NVIDIA today released the latest version of its GeForce Game Ready drivers. Version 526.47 WHQL adds support for two new GPUs, namely the GeForce RTX 3060 8 GB, and the RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X, the two SKUs NVIDIA launched to improve its standing against the RX 6650 XT, RX 6600, and Arc 7-series. Among the game optimizations with this release are for "Sackboy: A Big Adventure," "Victoria 3," "WRC Generations," and DLSS 3 frame-generation support in F1 22. Among the handful issues fixed with this release are game map corruption in "Cyberpunk 2077," a crash and reboot issue noticed with the Dell XPS 9560; lower performance noticed in Minecraft Java Edition; the 165 Hz refresh-rate option not being available with Samsung Odyssey Ark monitors; GeForce Experience selecting the wrong display-head with Shadowplay; and certain online video artifacting noticed with NVIDIA Image Scaling enabled.

Users with AMD Radeon graphics cards can download a newly released optional driver from AMD. Version 22.10.2 is now available for download from the official website and Radeon Software, bringing various bugfixes and performance improvements to compatible hardware.
