The R&D expenses on different computer components are higher and higher, that's for sure. But an average computer like 8-10 years ago costed a lot more than now, and look how complex is the hardware we've got on our hands!
Yeah, video cards are really expensive to manufacture and develop, but they did sky-rocket to inhuman prices over last few years. Maybe there is something in this case.
Well, that's just my opinion, I didn't do deep thinking really. May be wrong, may be right. We'll see.

IMHO advertising will do nothing in CS, at least to affect people playing.

aH so things are finally coming out i see. A little late mind you....

have engaged in a contract combination, trust or conspiracy, the effect of which was to raise the prices at which they sold graphics processing units and cards to artificially inflated levels.

What was I saying about this?.. wow... I hope they get nailed big time. They have harmed the future of PC gaming. Their pricing made it unrealistic for people to upgrade. At the same time they have been milking directx features from card to card, offering protocols that don't work. This lawsuit, if the DOJ actually tries, could blow big holes through each company. I've got lots of independant research/articles/information to back this behaviour too.. I'd just like to see video cards go back to realistic pricing levels. Where do I send all this? Hahahahaha

Something good better come from this because as far as I'm concerned PC gaming will be dead. Most rational people will move to console despite what PC huggers believe.

They have been milking directx features from card to card, offering protocols and features that don't work. This lawsuit, if the DOJ actually tries, could blow big holes through each company. Long time coming imo. I've gathered lots of independant research/articles/information to back this behaviour too(as far back as before 3dfx went under).. I'd like to see video cards go back to realistic pricing levels but ATI and nVidia are just geared at soaking the ever growing populous of idiots in PC gaming.

Something good better come from this because as far as I'm concerned PC gaming will be dead as it's already on a steep decline. Most rational people will move to console despite what PC huggers believe.

...but considering the R&D and manufacturing costs of these components I don't see that happening any time soon rather the DoJ is involved or not :]

Load of bullocks. You really think they sat there between the last line of cards and the current ones and came up with all this stuff? This naiveness is why they charge so much money for the cards, cuz they KNOW THEY CAN. Half the features on these card were invented years ago. It's called MILKING, something they both do against each other for competition. It's not just the speed race. There were sites that broke down the 'true' costs of cards, but some were threatened with lawsuits and others just disappeared but their goal was to inform the public but the public didn't care. I hope there are others out there that help feed the DOJ with articles and stuff to promote this campaign against nVidia and ATI. The effort you put in could save PC gaming down the road.
