I might just be getting sucked into the hype or whatever, but based on the screenshots and videos I've seen, I would buy a PS3 long before i bought a 360, and I would never even consider a wii because that's not even next-gen graphics.

The price of the console doesn't even matter. When you compare it with the online subscription fees compounded over the life of the console plus all of the games, the console is pennies.

It's still going to be a tough decision about whether to get an hdtv and ps3 or get a new computer. Maybe if that phantom lapboard thing comes out and companies start supporting it I'll have my answer.

Well, the Xbox360 is so far bullcrap, I can see so far three interesting games exclusively for the 360, for which I eitherway won't consider buying the 360 soly for - heck almost all games (like it's predecessor) are released for PC or another conole either way.

Halo... *cough*

As far as the PS3 goes in terms of main attraction games we got Final Fantasy or for that matter every other damn japanease RPG out there - the term "exclusivness" is key. Nothing wrong with the games for the 360, but I can still get a majority of them for PC...
However, would the 360 play Final Fantasy or other major RPG's I would buy that instead - but as it seems - Sony is my choice for now.

mig; Been saving myself for a Sony 46XBR2000 HDTV just for the PS3, but I'm a bit worried regarding the so called HDMI 1.3 connecting plug (which apparently the PS3 will support) and the TV in question... Hmm... we'll see closer to launch.

im just gonna wait out the price like i always have, once the initial hype wears off its nothing big. Waiting a few months and paying far less is just fine. Its not like there's a shortage of upcoming pc games or even ps2 games like ff12. Halo always seems to make it to the pc after a year or two, who cares if your behind everyone else, the whole point of games is to have fun. Thats what i do, and cheap too.

Games age like everything else, so a two year delay for Halo (or smth else) makes it less interesting in comparison to newer games.
Remember how people adored stalker? They don't feel that way now. It's an ordinary game after so many delays.

Games age like everything else

sure, i mean, damn, who still listen to those frigging old beatles records (it wasn't even stereo LOL!!), would you still care about Star Wars, the SFX as SO dated!

no, seriously, games don't age like everything else, and they all age in a different way
the problem is that videogames relies a lot on technologies that evolve incredibly quickly

we're trying to get the best simulation of reality (or a world that looks real)... as soon as you get a better simulation, the previously perfect-looking simulation now looks completely flawed..

the quality of your "simulation" might help your game to last longer
talking about Stalker, from a graphic point of view, it's maybe outdated, but their whole "life simulation" thing as few competitors.. maybe Oblivion.. and surely Bioshock someday

that kind of uniqueness makes that some games age better than others (think about Operation Flashpoint, Deus Ex & Thief, or in another genre, about a plain stupid but fun Serious Sam - in coop mode of course)

you can also not aim at "realism" at all
i'm sure Darwinia won't look that "dated" even in 10 years

and.. well Genoism said it all... you're all into this damn "race", play the latest game with the best graphics on the latest gpu
i believe there's more to enjoy in videogames than the technology satisfaction

My point wasn't the gfx, you said about life simulation yourself (Bioshock, not only stalker now). Games do age and you're right -- in a different way. If Prey was to be released in 98-99 it would make a brighter impression, don't you think?
That was my point.

And never forget, CS is/was one of the most widely played games of all time, for a LOONNNNGGG time, way past the engine's prime years.

And who can forget The Sims (1), that sold more copies of itself than any other game ever. And those graphics are nothing to write home about.
