I don't think there is any way they could sell the HD-DVD player for anything under $250, and I even think that is low considering how much the panasonic HD-DVD player is going for. I also don't think it's even worth talking about the CORE X360 when most developers plan to use the HDD, let alone what deminished capacity xbox live has without the HDD. For example the much needed patches have to go somewhere.

This should give the PS3 some leeway in terms of pricing because feature for feature X360 people would have to spend ~$750 (non-CORE X360 + HD-DVD player) to get the same functionality. Let us not forget the biggest concern of all: MS has said the HD-DVD addon won't be used for games. Now why the hell not? PS3 is going to be sitting pretty with the massive games taking up only one disc, while X360 is going to be a disc shuffling maniac. Nothing quite like "Enter next disc" to disrupt gameplay (albeit not nearly as bad as I make it out to be.)

To be honest I don't care about Bluray vs. HD-DVD right now, I have to own an HDTV first, and even then, It's going to take a lot higher quality or HD-only releases of movies to get me excited one way or the other. Been building up quite the DVD collection... most of them not worth another $20-30 investment. Maybe an upconverting Dvd player would be a better idea at first.
