The chaps over at
ExtremeTech take a look performance in
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion with a sample of six new graphics cards - three from Nvidia and three from ATI - to get an idea of how much GPU you really need to make the game look its best.
The averages, and even the framerate-over-time charts,

| Yeah, there we go.. 7600 GT OC and I have most everything cranked.. and compared to my X800, it feels like I have a 600 dollar card. I don't have my sliders past 80% but everything is set to high and I don't lag outside. The fighting as well is great and smooth. The only thing right now that could make Oblivion my dream RPG is if they fix the lighting issues. I had the problems on ATI and I have the problem with the nVidia.. the light doesn't shine on their faces right. Sucks cuz I am getting far in the game and I really don't feel like playing this game over again..NWN 2 is coming and I want to be done this game by then.. |

Turn off self shadows, all it does is create unrealistic messy shadows on the faces. It improves performance, and allows you to see their head without it being covered in pixel-turds. |

xxxx, the lighting issues are small, and they are by far a minor problem in relation to some of the quest bugs that exist.
I wouldn't give it cause to start the game over if it is fixed. |

@branflakes, thanks! I'll try that..
@devilhood
I don't know what quest bugs there are. I haven't come across any but I am currently looking to take out some Dark elf Valen Dreth I think and I got side tracked with another quest...I have no clue where I am in the game but since I started over with the new card I am motoring along. Tonite however is a COD2 nite!
@Bill Gates.. ur darn right.. |

heheh.
don't worry, the quest bugs are mostly randomly occuring or require unfortunate circumstances to effect the progression.
COD2 is fucking good, I did a 4 player LAN a week ago and it was great fun, reminds me of the MOHAA days but a hell of a lot more involving.
Try out the Oblivion mods on the list I provided btw, the Natural Environment one especially, it will make the outside lighting way more realistic and also boost your FPS by 4-5. |
