C++ creator Bjarne Stroustrup said the AI-generated code he has seen in programming-language work has not been successful.

On The Peterman Pod he said those tools produce more bugs, more security holes, and bloated programs that use extra memory and are hard to validate.

He added that some senior developers who would...

Very interesting article. Especially the senior developers retiring or leaving the profession because of AI errors and the monumental energy needed to address problems. One thing that will get worse, is mental health. The workload on people isn’t healthy. I can imagine going to bed in sheer terror that something will go wrong and sleep deprivation along with alcohol and substance abuse to cope.
Yep, so much for AI making things easier when it’s still *you* taking the blame..

I respect this person a lot, but I don't agree with him. It's like someone using pure machine code and then criticizing the programming languages ??that came later, saying they bloat the code, compilers make mistakes, etc. AI is already starting to program very well, surprisingly well. Of course, you have to know how to do it. It's just another stage after compilers and interpreters.

I'm starting to write some smaller programs (via AI) for myself now and I'm really surprised at how well the code is written. And I'm a person who, when I was programming full-time, really saved every byte. I love optimized code, because of that I often had to make terribly complicated incomprehensible code to make it small and fast.

I'm afraid that programmers who have only programmed their whole lives won't be able to handle this. And we're only at the beginning, I can only imagine where we'll get to in another year...
