In a new update to the Galactic Civilizations II website, Stardock's Brad Wardell mentions that the people at StarForce have apologized for linking to a torrent site where people could grab the game.

We received email from StarForce today apologizing for the incident. We appreciated them taking down the link

Wow, lots of positive press for Stardock! they deserve it as well, they are also speaking out about the whole copy protection rubbish.
Good on you Brad, as soon as my student loan comes through in April, I'll be getting this game as well.

I dont think these "on the fence" people exist. Who actually knows how a game is protected and installed (CD required after install etc...), until you buy it...or pirate it.

I'm all for keeping the PC gaming genre alive, this will only happen by getting revenue to the developers. I don't like obtrusive protection systems that install drivers and whatever else... they dont work, they just warrant more sophisticated cracks. I dare say the fee for these protection systems is considerable too.
