We bought a 48GB RTX 4090 from China to see if doubling your VRAM really makes that much of a difference with AI workloads. It definitely does, but what's more interesting is how much benchmarking doesn't really show that.

It was America that banned the 48GB 4090 from sale. They seen them as a major threat because of the powerful AI capabilities - which it was. Custom built to circumvent the market.
So a stripped down crippled version was sold instead legitimately.
The story was out on the net a few years ago,if I remember rightly.
Nvidia was the richest company in the world at that time as well, the chips alone were selling for 10s of thousands of dollars.
