Haha, this is really a massacre, because I have two little girls, so I see it every day. When I was a kid, my first computer was....moment of tension ....paper computer from a magazine!!! I cut it out of a magazine. And then the program strips. I learned how to algorithm on it. Then in seventh grade in elementary school I had a Casio 3600P programmable calculator with 39 steps. You could program a game called "Landing on the Moon" with those Smile

Imagine where their kids will be in 30 years from now on.
People will be on infusion 100% of the time hooked up with wires (no VR headset required) into multiverse 100.0.
No sex either because we are being bred.

1990 was DOS, so what is that Windows XP boot screen doing there? Wink

My first computer use was Commodore 64.
But my real first owned computer was Amstrad CPC464.
I still have all my games but they are now DSK formats and run in emulators on pretty much all my hacked devices.

Atari, sorry, never used it, never even seen one. Atari 2600 was my first game console with those stupid twisting round paddles.
It was better than the Amstrad as it was in more colors. My Amstrad was green screen. I was so happy when I brought a color monitor for it 10 years later.
I had it fully modded with a 3.5in floppy drive and a 5.14in floppy drive.
I did also have the 3in Amstrad floppy drive too. 3 drives on a tape amstrad, it like a fully modded PS3 where it dual boots linux, PS3 and the rest.
Back in those days a 3disc Amstrad was never seen.
I'm looking for a replacement one now as I'd love to get back into it but they cost a shitload of money these days and the collector/seller/repairer who I spoke to says you cant add those drives to it. Well I did back then so yea you can.
But now, the mod is a USB stick instead of the disc drive. Now thats an awesome mod.

About the Atari, keep looking, maybe you'll be luckier than me and find one cheap enough that actually works.

BTW, you say about kids in the 90's, I had a kid in the 90's thats showing my age.

Have you tried these?

https://atari800.github.io
https://www.virtualdub.org/altirra.html
http://www.xl-project.com/downloads.html

The first link has the most up-to-date compatibility as far as I'm aware.

I'm not sure how mature the Atari 800 core is on RetroArch, but it's also worth trying that

https://docs.libretro.com/library/atari800/

I use RetroArch as my main emulator, and LaunchBox as a front-end.

Love playing old C64 classics and Amiga games using WHDLoad Very Happy
