Not sure what's the big deal with having both VR and non-VR engine in a game.
I am thinking only these subsystems should be affected:
- graphics rendering; two viewports instead of one but it should not be a big deal because most games support multimonitor setups already - not a big leap from there.
- controller and input; I don't think it's a big difference whether a game gets a 'turning left' command from a VR controller, a joystick, a mouse or a keyboard.
- audio out; again, most games have headset, stereo and 5.1 modes included already, better ones come with 7.1 or more. I should not think it matters where that audio output goes.
All this VR nonsense has been proven to be destroying your eyes so you should always avoid it when necessary.
That said, I don't see the point in making any VR games - so I guess I am agreeing with the Valve employees and I disagree with the idiots at the helm. |
