defamation?
at least two my customers lost all data after force upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10
In my experiance upgrading around 100 PC's to Windows 10 from 7, around 25% of the Windows 10 upgrades completed succesfully, but were left with a half-working operating system afterwards.
Of course, the loss of data may not be entirely Microsoft's fault, but it is at least in part. Additionally if the upgrade caused the machine to be non-functional then no amount of backups will fix that for non-technically minded users. So it would absolutely be Microsoft's fault that the user had to pay for a tech guy to fix it for them (potentially putting them back on the previous OS and inadvertently causing another forced upgrade).
When you have such a colossal install base, pushing out mandatory forced updates is a really bad idea and you shouldn't be surprised when you break/delete stuff by accident, and you absolutely should be prepared to take at least some of the blame when that happens. |

There was more than plenty ways to safeguard your data, and you can always opt out.
I've performed hundreds of installs, no problem, including upgrades to Pro and Enterprise. Colleagues have too.

@Tom
Since MS forced the update on more or less everyone and you can't buy new PCs without Windows 10, that's not very surprising.
Also, many people don't bother downgrading even though that's included in their licenses.
But these things do not make WinDOS 10 a better OS.
It's looking fancy and comes with new stuff, but that's not what makes me tick at least. |

You're making excuses for idiots.
Win10 is a stable/usable OS and people are switching to it. I have yet to have a single problem myself and all my PC's at home run it. Really not a single thing I can come up with off the top of my head that's negative. And all my old software that was there when it was Win7 and Vista before that, ALL work.

joking aside: No you didn't. Few years ago you told us in some topic what do you do for a living, and all I remember was that it was nothing to do with IT. I also remember that you are an older man, with wife/kids/etc.
It should be beneath you to lie like that...
even if we put that aside, there are problems with win 10. Especially the 64bit one. Sure, everything that I have, you have and every tech savy person has, will most likely work. However, there are businesses that have some older tech that works fine on win 7 but doesn't work in win 10 because no driver that works (and compatibility mode solves nothing). If they refuse to pay for updating a lot of PCs with newer hardware and go through all the shit involved with it, the most sensible solution is to go back to windows 7. Hence the included "revert to windows 7" option provided by Microsoft themselves. Why would they provide that if "There are no issues" ? >.< |

Umm ok , I have actually, both on physical and VM's, as our IT team is small I provided assistance and contributed to company wide upgrades. 90% of those were upgrades. IT is a BIG field there. I've also built a few PC's in recent months for people, all Win10 Home.
I use Win10 on 3 machines everyday at work on a name brand PC's as well as various lab machines and I have 4 PC's at home with Home and Pro. Sorry, I have no problems and never have. The ONLY thing that pisses me off about Win10 is that, at least for now, I lost 2 licenses that were from Win7 upgrades. Didn't know you could add these to your digital inventory on MS. I can get licenses for ~$30, really who cares?!
As for old hardware, I have an old HD dock used for cloning, uses Firewire, it works with actually built in drivers. I have a scanner I use for digitizing old media, prints, connects via a serial cable of all things. Works with the Win7 driver, installed manually. I have an ancient old laser B/W HP that works on a parallel port. Also works with built in MS drivers. Sure if you PC is F'ing ancient you might run into issues.
Ya you are right, I am an older person and with wife/kids and dog.
And to be honest, I grow tired of working with PC's, I prefer to code now these days but you know, you can never get away from it. |

Sounds like you are getting there
I got bored with PC building a decade ago and with coding about 5 years ago. |

| Disappointed by Mad Catz though, these guys made good devices over the years, most notable gamepads, mice, keyboards aka Saitek. Looks like the top-heads saw it coming and jumped ship asap. |
