Machines won't bring about the economic robot apocalypse -- but
greedy humans will, according to physicist Stephen Hawking. In
a Reddit Ask Me Anything session on Thursday, the scientist
predicted that economic inequality will skyrocket as more jobs become
automated and the rich owners of machines refuse to share t

Just a thought: If robots replace workers - will robots buy the products? Because, ex-workers won't be able to afford to buy jack shit. So how is this "robots" thing feasible theory? Sure, there will be some people working, but a lot of people will be out of jobs at some point and will be redundant to industry, market and economy. They will be then...disposed off? I don't see how the small % that keeps working will make up for the majority that is getting laid off. In the light of that - I can only see a small bump in fortune and then a huuugeee down in fortune to those that think that robots are a good idea if they change nothing in regards to economy.

It's mostly because you don't cater to people without money and the rich will always be more rich while the poor - even more poor. Robots can do pretty much anything that a human can do, one can only imagine that they'd be able to do even more things in the future. There are a lot of work being occupied by robots because it's *cough* safer *cough*. While this is true a robot can easily remove several job slots in one go. A human worker is only viable if the cost is low and you know where in the world you'd have to be for that to even work.

The real problem like always isn't that a machine can do a human job(and often better). It's that humans breed, more offspring means more people. Simply put there are way too many humans already and more are coming every day. A real blow will come once machines can actually sell merchandise in a shop at a low buying and running cost. All of the sudden a shop can be open 24/7 at a fraction of a cost compared to having humans working in it. The technology isn't really there yet, there are cases in Japan I believe where this is kinda working but, it's obviously very expensive.

The key is to imagine a world without money or trade at all.

Just people who do anything they want with their days, while their jointly owned robots manufacture the goods and services they need.

Make the robots into the new working class - they're just machines so we can work them 24/7 without a qualm. Then all humans can be in the ownership class and have everything they need provided just for the asking, and most things they want.

Capitalism vs communism vs dictatorship isn't the argument, really; all those are really bad, some a little worse than others, but they're all horrible. The proper alternative is a society that isn't at all competition based, like all those three are, but fully cooperation based. Something entirely new. Something we can create now, thanks to the machine efficiency we have invented.

The Free World Charter is one place to start looking for more on this train of thought. There are plenty of other organizations who want to scrap competition as well.

Honestly? Very bad and naive idea. Also, sounds like perfect communism just with robots doing the work.
