Looks pretty good actually, looking forward to it.. not sure why people are trashing the last movie. Thought it was pretty good myself.

Great, fast and furious in space with big spacecraft.

The reason people are trashing the previous movies is that they've pissed on what Star Trek used to be. Something with a social message, something that celebrated the human spirit, something that inspired people while simultaneously being entertaining.

This is just another space shoot-em-up. They could just as easily have done this without involving the Star Trek franchise.

It will probably be entertaining but about as deep as a rainwater puddle.

lorcro2000 is right.

StarTrek is about exportation, discovery and ADVENTURE. NONE is present in the trailer. Still will watch, but I can see why people are pissed.

Interesting as I'll watch a movie if it provides entertainment. In the case of Star Trek, it had to have characters that were close to the originals and good actors and the story and movie was entertaining. It also needed a cooler and updated Enterprise.

Entertainment factor is all that is important to me.

This is a reboot, it doesn't want to be the same as the old one beyond characters and ship. People were bored of the old Star Trek BS. Political correctness BS.

@imgarfield, did you even watch the trailer? The ship explodes they are on an alien planet, hunted down it appears and you say there is no adventure in it? You like most others are blind with expectations that can never be fulfilled.

I am no hater. I like the new movies never watched the original series and like probably something around 2-3 of the old movies.

The trailer presented it as an action movie, and many fans don't like the idea action-based entertainment to come first in ST.
... and directed by a Fast and Furious director...

Ok well you are clearly not versed on old Star Trek, especially if you only watch 2 or 3 movies and never even watched the old series. You literally know nothing, really. The older franchise grew (Kirk/Spock) stale and boring. This set of new movies is the opposite. They've all had good action, decent stories and great acting and most of all great special fx. The Enterprise has never looked better. I hated Next Generation and that simplified Enterprise, biggest most boring hunk of shit I ever saw. Lot of people liked Picard, I hated 'the bald grandpa'. But I watched it all regardless because I'm a devoted fan of the show. There isn't anything Star Trek I haven't watched. Even the fan made movie was 'ok', and Enterprise, which was a fucking awesome series that ended up on a shitty network.

I've watched anything out there that has "Trek" on it, and the "political correctness BS" as you put it was an important part of it.

Trek was the first TV that had a female officer, and a black one at that. There was also a Russian and Asian man in the command crew. This was a big deal in the 1960's.

Sure, old Star Trek is hugely outdated now, and even TNG looks old, but tossing out the message just so you can have bigger bangs is wrong.

I'm not opposed to good effects, but good effects and action doesn't make up for a bad story with no real moral message. If it did, Star Wars Episode One would be one of the best movies ever, because the effects work was first rate. Instead, it had a garbage story and annoying nonsense in it so it's widely considered to be garbage. Even if it is shiny garbage. And I'm currently classifying the new movies under "entertaining shiny garbage".

I'm looking for entertainment in a Star Trek world. It looks entertaining and different from old bland ST. Who knows, when it comes out maybe it will suck, but I reserve judgement until then. If what you say is true, then why did all the movies literally flop? Why a reboot? Because nobody gave a shit clearly. Clearly you are one of the hard-heads who can't figure it out.

http://www.cnet.com/news/why-this-old-school-trekkie-loves-the-star-trek-reboots/

I grew up on old Star Trek, I don't need to learn any lessons. I've learned them. For people like me, the reboot is welcome and in my opinion they've all entertained me. I agree they have to have a good story but I also think they did. Satisfying, not academy award winning. I like this alternate reality in the reboot. It has a lot of potential to be more. You know they are spinning off a new series right? Anyway, I support what's said in the article above. End of story. Smile
