er fur/hair to provide a truly interactive game experience. FYI, the video features some animals from CD Projekt RED's highly anticipated RPG, The Witcher 3.

People were not interested in TressCrapX from ATI - why would they be interested in this unnatural plastic-like thing nVidia dares to call hair?
Do they really think gamers care? Sure, they'll find a few who do, but they are a minority.
If you want to force people into buying stronger graphics cards, make real-time physics libraries available for everyone.
For example, it would allow for making car games where parts actually rotate, turn, twist, bend and break as in real life. Start with simulating the explosion, turning that explosion into pressure, the pressure into kinetic energy and transfer that kinetic energy into the asphalt.
All these car games show cars that run fine without an actual engine, lol
Focus on things that make a difference. |

Those things do exist but they are simulators and are no joke when it comes to processing power...
This "hair" can be used as grass or any other particle effect that would involve strings.
On the other side, there is a limit to how much aesthetics people need in a game to complement the gameplay. For instance, even tho I do have nVidia (most of the time anyway), I tend to disable all those physX effects because they are usually distractive. |

The first thing I usually disable is the Depth of Field - causes headaches...
The next one is usually grass - useless animations taking a lot of GPU cycles...
The third one is usually shadows - for the same reason as grass - unless of course the main idea is the use of shadows (i.e. Thief-like games). |
