What I don't understand about these simple games is why they don't push the envelope with the graphics... Yeah I understand the gameplay is nothing more than mario with shooting and stuff added, but they have so much power at their disposal and yet they still apparently use sprites for all the objects.
Why not a 3d DX11 game with all the trimmings just happening to be viewed from the side. The camera could zoom in on specific parts and zoom out for complex levels. Something really pretty and complex looking with simple gameplay would probably turn heads.

Whatever. It just seems like a waste to spend all that effort and only end up with a game that could've been made 10 years ago. Rolling Eyes
