More transparent than this is actually impossible:
Sony just released a firmware that stops 3rd party controllers from working (in a attempt to avoid piracy through a USB pen-drive). And now they are doing what they can to justify that you are obliged to buy Sony original controllers.
Now, I'm not sure, but I don't really think it's legal to force consumers to buy accessories or peripherals from Sony. |

This about counterfeit products working *against* what they are intended to do.
Nintendo had a problem a while back with fake asian rechargers for their DS. These things overcharged batts, were a fire hazard and therefore only an idiot would jepordise their home/family leaving that PoS charging whilst out-if they hadn't already blown their DS/batt up!
As for buying GENUINE Sony accessories, this isn't the case. The wording is COUNTERFEIT. Any third party can make (and obviously do) accessories for all manners of Sony,M$ and nintendo products provided they are licensed by said manufacturers.
It's when they are sold illegaly for either a fast buck = screw you when it packs in or screws up your console -your choice and tough titty if it does.
The other case is when they are sold to support an illegal device/software etc.
I've got several different joypads and my mate has got a thirdparty PS3 Blu Ray movie controller, guess what? They work perfectly with all firmware updates. As i said, licensed and bought in reputable shops.
If it's too good to be true it generaly is  |

This is just too funny but people should also know that 3.50 firmware will disable a lot of these controllers. [/i] |
