Counterfeit PS3 Controllers May Explode - console
(hx) 02:04 AM CEST - Sep,24 2010 - Post a comment / read (4)
Sony issued a consumer alert today stating that certain counterfeit PS3 controllers may explode.
Counterfeit PlayStation®3 Wireless Controllers, which are practically identical in appearance to genuine PlayStation®3 Wireless Controllers, have been discovered in the market. SCEA advises consumers to be cautious when buying PlayStation®3 Wireless Controllers from uncertain sources as the quality, reliability and safety of counterfeit products is uncertain, and in some cases, may be dangerous. It is possible that some counterfeit product may ignite or explode, resulting in injury or damage to the user, your PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, or other property. Moreover, SCEA does not support continued functionality of counterfeit or unlicensed controllers in system software updates and these devices may cease to function in the future because of system software updates.

SCE and its affiliated companies disclaim all liability for any loss or damage suffered by you or any third party through the use of counterfeit or unlicensed products.

More transparent than this is actually impossible:

Sony just released a firmware that stops 3rd party controllers from working (in a attempt to avoid piracy through a USB pen-drive). And now they are doing what they can to justify that you are obliged to buy Sony original controllers.

Now, I'm not sure, but I don't really think it's legal to force consumers to buy accessories or peripherals from Sony.

This about counterfeit products working *against* what they are intended to do.
Nintendo had a problem a while back with fake asian rechargers for their DS. These things overcharged batts, were a fire hazard and therefore only an idiot would jepordise their home/family leaving that PoS charging whilst out-if they hadn't already blown their DS/batt up!

As for buying GENUINE Sony accessories, this isn't the case. The wording is COUNTERFEIT. Any third party can make (and obviously do) accessories for all manners of Sony,M$ and nintendo products provided they are licensed by said manufacturers.
It's when they are sold illegaly for either a fast buck = screw you when it packs in or screws up your console -your choice and tough titty if it does.
The other case is when they are sold to support an illegal device/software etc.
I've got several different joypads and my mate has got a thirdparty PS3 Blu Ray movie controller, guess what? They work perfectly with all firmware updates. As i said, licensed and bought in reputable shops.
If it's too good to be true it generaly is

This is just too funny but people should also know that 3.50 firmware will disable a lot of these controllers. :P [/i]
